The magnetic field surrounds the earth and protects us from solar radiation. If the magnetic field was not their life would not exist on earth. The magnetic field has been deteriorating, there has been record of this since 1845. The magnetic field has been deteriorating 5% a century. If the magnetic field came into place millions and billions of years ago, we would not have a magnetic field and we would not be alive. For the magnetic field to be here today and with the same deterioration process the same the magnetic field could be no more than 20,000 years old.
