Creation vs. Evolution in Schools

In Today’s society there are many things that parents would like to control for the well being of their child while he or she is growing up. An example of that is when you see a parent deny their kids of listen to a certain kind of music or watching a certain show. Every parent has their own idea of how they believe that there child should be raised. The same concept applies when it comes to teaching. Adults want to filter what is being taught which leads to the argument of creation vs. evolution in schools. Some adults think it is blasphemous to teach evolution and vise versa with creation in the class room. This is an issue that has raged on for years and will be explored starting with the teachings of evolution.
The study of evolution is the theory of history on this earth. Evolution teaches that humans have evolved over time from animals that live on earth. The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary gives the definition that it is "a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations..." Now this relates to creation vs. evolution because some people feel this is one hundred percent the truth and right. Some people believe that God does not exist and that this is more scientific and factual proof that this is how humans came to be on this earth. To support their argument in 1963 there was a case held by the Supreme Court called Murray vs. Cutlet. This case which ruled in the favor of the evolutionist stating that reading the Bible in class, praying and the teaching of creation where un constructional and they were taken out of schools. So the end result was no more teaching of creation.
The teaching of creation states that people are all here because of God. God created everything and he has given everyone life. The first man and women were created by God

In the 1920’s the very idea of evolution was heavily criticized due to a majority of the american population believing in creationism. It had become a tradition for parents to teach their kids about how people came from Adam and Eve. This tradition became under scrutiny when the theory of evolution was proposed by Charles Darwin. It was in direct contrast with creationism and was based in science. A debate started in the 1920s about which one was was true, and then an even bigger debate occurred when the question whether or not the theory of evolution should be taught in school, was raised. Even though in the 1920s, creationism was prevalently believed around the nation there were people that opposed this belief. These people were referred to as modernists because they would rather believe in science than traditional beliefs.…

In “One Side Can Be Wrong,” Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne argue that teaching creationism along side evolution does not make sense, and that creationism has no business being in the science classes. Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne are evolutionary biologists at Oxford University and the University of Chicago. They published this essay in the Guardian in September 2005, seeking to appeal to middle-aged parents. They argue that creationism cannot provide any positive evidence to create a controversy and therefore should not be taught in schools to children and teenagers. On the other hand, there is a substantial amount of evidence for evolution where debate and conversation can arise.…

I was taught about the Big Bang theory by my science teacher from last year. I was taught about the theory of evolution by my social studies teacher. They were the ones who taught me how the world was created and how humans came to be on earth, which are very important answers to know. But, some of these are also just opinions. These theories are not proven to be 100% true, they are just ideas that many people believe is what happened. I happen to believe them because they were taught by the best to be able to teach the best. They know what they are talking about in these specific areas and I happen to agree with them. They are my teachers and if they were to lie to me, and tell me something that isn’t even close to the truth, they would not be doing their job. I do not know if I am…

In the essay “Why Evolution should be taught in public school” by Laura Kahn. According to Kahn, we need to educate the next generation of scientists on understanding how microbes develop and change to give them the tools to develop treatment against antibiotic resistant bacteria emerging viruses, and other deadly microbes. As she learned from her time in medicine, she recognizes the necessity of learning evolution to develop treatments in this rapid microbial environment. Unfortunately, certain aspects of society insist that religious doctrine be taught instead of evolution. According to a 2005 Harris poll, a majority of U.S citizens believe in creationism. Another survey show that two-thirds of U.S citizen believe creationism should be taught alongside evolution. Mrs. Kahn believed if we fail to teach science in public schools we would become scientifically illiterate. Therefore, we need to remain vigilant that our children receive a good science education to further enhance human understanding, and a good science education includes learning about evolution.…

Though some states do teach both and very few teach how evolution is wrong, the majority of public school students in the US are taught evolution. Creation is a belief and evolution is a scientific theory. Different published works will say contrasting things about this controversy and how well, scientifically speaking the two sides stack against each other. Neither creation nor evolution can be proven using the scientific method because they can’t be tested. All that is left to do is take the evidence left by both sides and compare them to how well they fit into the science and history of the…

Since the 1930s, the Theory of Evolution has been the prominent science taught in public schools. Since then, Creationists have been fighting tooth-and-nail to have their opposing theory, Intelligent Design, taught alongside Evolution. Their main argument is that there should be an equal representation of people’s views. Since Creationists’ Intelligent Design theory is a “credible” theory of science held by 40% Americans according to a poll done by Gallup, they believe it should be taught alongside, or instead of, the Theory of Evolution in science classes. On the other hand, leading scientific minds and myself agree that it should not. Creationism is not based entirely on scientific facts and teaching it results in an exceeding number of potential troubling problems that are not worth dealing with, if the curriculum were changed.…

How can students be expected to expand their minds and to make choices on how to prove things if there is just one theory that students are learning. A poll was released that stated that two thirds of Americans believe that creationism should be taught in school. This statement gives an overwhelming reason to teach creationism because if over half of Americans believe something should happen it should be done and should not be stopped by a group of men and women that believe that their science is scientific law and don’t want any opposition because they are afraid that people might believe the other science method and not theirs. All this means that evolutionists are holding people back from know all the possible ways that thing happened in the past and if we look at it how it is they are only letting us learn what they want us to learn and that is completely immature and outright blatant disrespect to the people of…

"It appears that some school officials, teachers, and parents have assumed that religious expression of any type is either inappropriate or forbidden altogether in public schools; however, nothing in the First Amendment converts our public schools into religion-free zones" - Bill Clinton. Although, public schools are meant to be religion free sometimes the topic of creationism is brought up and it causes many problems. The main problem is that creationism is religiously based therefore, students feel offended because of their religion. Students and teachers should never be able to discuss religious topics because it interferes with the First Amendment. Although, both evolutionism and creationism are theories, evolution should always be taught mainly while creationism only mentioned.…

On one side we have Intelligent Design, or I.D. which claims that something in nature are simply too complex to happen by chance. In their view there is a higher being (God) who us being it all. On the other side of the debate we have evolution, which consists of Darwin's theory of natural selection. To their credit scientists have a better case, but it's fair because they are so much smarter. This is a debate which really has three sides. The third being politics, but I won't get into that. There isn't much of a middle ground on this issue. You're learning on way or the…

The issue of teaching creationism in the public schools has long been debated. Over the years many different arguments have been made. First creationists tried to have the teaching of evolution outlawed. This issue went to the Supreme Court in 1968, where in _Epperson v. Arkansas_ the high court ruled against banning the teaching of evolution. Soon after this decision creationists began to call for 'equal time ', or the equal treatment of creation theory and evolution theory. When this attempt also failed creationists turned to 'creation science ' (Grunes 465). Today the major argument for the teaching of creationism in public schools is that creationism is a scientific theory and thus should be taught alongside evolution. The combatants against creationism being taught in public schools are those who believe creation science is bad science and those who believe it violates the separation of church and state. Supporters of creation science are organizations that are collectively referred to as the New Christian Right, such as the Institute for Creation Research. On the other hand, those who oppose creation science are usually scientists, educators, and civil liberties organizations (Grunes 466).…

What is evolution? Well, evolution can be a difficult concept for people to come to terms with, especially if they do not have much experience with life sciences. Unfortunately, there are too many examples of people who do not understand any of it with many of these people tries to criticize evolution while promoting creationism.
