Creating a Job that Leads to Success
Creating a Job that Leads to Success There are many job opportunities waiting to be filled, but it is important that I sift through those opportunities and decide what the best fit is because it is one thing to be hired for a job, but maintaining and succeeding at that job is an entirely different subject. In addition, before I start a career in a certain field, I need to make sure there will be a continuing need and that there will be opportunities to expand and develop. That is how I will “create a job,” as opposed to just “getting a job.” Throughout history, there have been many examples of people who have succeeded in “creating their job” such as many of the great inventors like Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Albert Einstein, and many others. These people saw unmet needs in society and met them through their ingenuity and hard work. Other business people like Andrew Carnegie, Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and others took advantage of opportunities to grow and develop their businesses into huge corporations. In addition, the great political leaders of America utilized their situations to propel themselves forward in their careers. Complimented by their diligence and ability to fulfill needs, these people knew themselves and used their natural abilities to their advantage. In the same way, I have been blessed to go through a career counseling course that has assessed my natural abilities so I can choose a major that would be a good fit and that I would enjoy. As a result, I have found that construction science would be a great fit because I greatly enjoy working with my hands and seeing the fruit of my labor. At the same time, I think in more concrete terms as opposed to the abstract and theoretical. I have always been interested in construction through my time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, what

makes it a great career is that there will always be a need for the construction of new buildings and other structures simply

(Tyrell-Smith. 2010) One should also consider the educational training needed for a particular field. The final career choice and ultimate option should be one that may even include guidance from a career counselor or school advisor. In this report, the previous questions will be explored in order to choose between a career in Landscaping or Carpentry. In this formal report, a comparison will be made between 2 careers. I had to think a bit about this one as there are many things in my life that I have enjoyed on a hobby level but that I would never want to be my career. I think that many people make the mistake of thinking just because they enjoy doing something they would also enjoy a career in that field which is not hardly the case. For me, I am extremely interested in the aviation field and I have quite extensive knowledge in the field having served four years as an Air Traffic Controller in the Navy. Part of the reason why I find this field so interesting is the fact that it deals with travel which is another huge interest of mine. I am more of a thinker than someone who likes to express their self and tend to like interaction with things and people rather than with data. I also would really love to dedicate more time to helping animals as I believe their innocence cannot be…

At the end of year 11 I had seen my future career path heading towards Business management, as I have the skills needed to motivate teams, solve problems and communicate with others to get jobs set to me complete. All skills which can also be transferred to construction management. However construction management offers me the challenge of having to find solutions to problems on a daily basis and the promise that no two jobs will ever be alike but most importantly it will mean that I get a lot of time to spend outdoors in the fresh air and cool summer days. At the end of year 11 my interest in construction management was aroused when I decided to go and work for my dad, to earn some money to spend when I went back to College. During the next ten weeks I was working on various Building sites from small single room extensions on a house, to a giant sixteen room extension on a nursing home. I had spent at least seven years before this following my dad around sites during my summer holidays but this was the first time I was allowed to get some hands on experience laboring. I was very excited and willing to get on with the tasks I had seen performed hundreds of times before.…
