All successful artist should start out with a career plan . They must see their talent as a business and plan where they would like to be in the future. Mapping out a career plan does'nt just involve the artist it also involves everybody on the team whether it be lawyers, publicists, stylists etc. All are included in creating a plan and applying all needed facets of it. Managers have a lot of responsibilities when it comes to the artist. They need to make sure they are following through professionally, and staying aware to opportunities that could further the career of the artists. They should have their long-term goals, along with their short term goals all mapped out. The manager needs to be very business oriented and construct plans in the best interest of the artist. The artist and manager should share the same visions, and having somewhat similar values would be a good advantage. It can be very difficult working with an artist or manager who see thing in the opposite direction since the manager's duties consist of advising the artist on all aspects of their career and to do everything possible to promote the artist's career. And the artist always has to be prepared to accept the manager's judgments. The manager needs to make contacts in the business, and know the business as well. He or she has to give suggestions while helping to create the artist's image. The manager is in charge of helping the artist get established, and has to understand the market that the artist is in; so they could mainly target that area. The manages need to know how the party they are trying to convince their artist is the best, likes to be approached and when it is best to do that.
