Courage In Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry
little man on the first day of school. She also had to stand up for herself against her arch nemesis, Lillian Jean. She also has to show courage when she took care of little man and christopher John in the storm and in the dark.

One way cassie showed courage is when she stood up for little man on the first day of school. He wanted to be neat and organized at school, but the books they got were old and torn. When he confirmed this to the teacher, she got mad and ordered him to the whipping chair, Cassie stepped in and said “Miz Crocker, don’t, please!”. Then she said “See, Miz Crocker, see what it says. They give us these ole books when they didn’t want ‘em no more.” When she was saying this to her teacher, Mrs. Crocker, She knew there was a big chance she could get in trouble, which means she was showing courage.

Courage isn’t just about standing up for others, it can also be protecting yourself from others. In the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Cassie had to stand for herself against her arch nemesis, Lillian Jean. When Cassie was walking on the sidewalk, she accidentally bumped into Lillian Jean. Lillian Jean got mad and told her how she was supposed to get out of the way, and stand in the road when a white person was coming since she was black. Lillian Jean said for her to apologize, andPeople show courage all the time, whether it’s doing something good in a big crowd, or doing the little things when no one’s watching. (Introduce Example):One of the most courageous acts that Calpurnia takes is defending Scout and Jem’s presence at First Purchase Church.
