Courage and Choices
Unit 1 Assignment 1: It Takes Courage
GS_2745
Anthony Norman
9/25/2014

Q. Why does it take courage to possess and display and qualities of persistence and enthusiasm.
A. To overcome any challenge or obstacle in life is to refuse to let it stand in your way. Contrary to what many people think, overcoming difficulties in life does not require physical strength or mental brilliance. To triumph over whatever hurdles you face simply needs a determination that you will live your life the way you choose- no matter what.
To overcome something does not mean you have to conquer or demolish that obstacle. The only thing you need to do to prevail in any condition is to eliminate the power of that situation, fear, or belief over you. It is not the situation that is the barrier; it is your reaction to the situation. Trust your heart and you can find your way out of any beliefs or fears that are dragging you down.
Procrastinators are afraid of making decisions because they may be wrong. Fear of failure causes a person to be stuck unless someone intervenes. They will put off making decisions until either the last minute or the deadline is due. This causes poor management skills. It may have something to do with the persons past or they may just want attention. Procrastinators need help with better work habits. Some need help overcoming their fear of failure. Working on a team with someone like this is frustrating because you must be sure to give them a false deadline in order to get them to be on time with their part of the work.
Why does it take courage to possess and display qualities of persistence and enthusiasm?
It takes courage to possess and display qualities of persistence and enthusiasm because courage allows one to face challenges head on with confidence and self-assurance. Enthusiasm allows you to approach life with excitement.Persistence allows you to finish what you started.
Courage completes the process because it allows you to keep going no

There are a few different factors that play into courage when it comes to persistence and enthusiasm. Character strengths or the big picture is just one of many. Character strengths are defined as virtues, for example, the virtue of wisdom which can be achieved through strengths such as creativity, curiosity, love of learning, open mindedness, and perspective (Peterson and Seligman, 2004). Most virtues are the core characteristics that are valued by thinkers and philosophers. Wisdom, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence are just to name a few of the characteristics. Fear exists in everyone. No one lives without fear. Being fearless is not required to be courageous, one has to overcome fears in order to possess courage. Risks are involved when overcoming fears and going against the norm. Risks come in different types, risking life, risking reputations, risking limb. The greatest risk “is not taking any risk” (Mark Zuckerberg). A person must have courage to endure each particular risk. A person who is not courageous enough to take risks will “accomplish nothing in life” (Muhammad Ali). Courage happens anytime, anywhere, and any day. At first glance, it might seem that patience and courage are dispositions that tend in different directions, reflecting different strengths. If we are asked to imagine exemplars of each of these virtues, we probably call two very different individuals to mind—the courageous person imposing, heroic, probably male, and the patient person quiet, reserved, quite likely female. (After all, Ancient Greek courage simply was the virtue of manliness (andreia), and the Victorians used to name their daughters Patience.) Some of our images of courage may even positively conflict with some of our images of patience, with the courageous person insisting upon action while the patient person implores him to wait.…
