Now and days when people hear the word courage, they automatically think of heroic acts and super heroes. Not that being heroic doesn’t require courage, is just that it goes beyond putting your life at risk to save others, Although the dictionary defines courage as the power or quality of dealing with or facing danger, fear, pain. To me, courage is the most inner strength a human being can have. Is the strength to face the greatest, as well as the smallest of fears. From doing the things others are too afraid of, to stand up for what they believe, whether its their believes in morals, values, faith or just to show who they truly are regardless of the outcome.
The word courage originates from the old French “corage” and Latin word “cor”, meaning of the heart. In other words, it’s saying that it takes heart to have courage however, as king Salomon once said, “the human heart is deceitful above all things.” So, if the heart were to be deceitful what else would you need to demonstrate courage? One thing I know is that your mind, spirit and body are important components to obtaining courage. I know that everyone is capable of displaying courage but not everyone is willing. It is then when fear, doubt, and insecurities take over you, making you choose the easy way out, the coward way. You don’t have to put your life at risk to save others’ in order to show Pg2 courage. We are confronted on a daily basis with many opportunities to manifest courage, even if it is in the smallest of things. For someone to be able to admit they lied, or to give back what they stole takes a huge amount of courage because, it is our pride that we hurt, in order to do the right thing.
