Country Risk Tier
CRT-1
• The Country Risk Tier (CRT) reflects A.M. Best’s assessment of three categories of risk: Economic, Political and Financial System Risk. • The United States is a CRT-1 country with very low levels of economic, political and financial system risk. The United States experienced its worst financial crisis since the Great Depression from December 2007 to June 2009. • The U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by over 3% in 2009 and the unemployment rate hit double digits. While strong policy action has been taken, both monetary and fiscal, the recovery has been fragile and modest with growth rates between 1% and 2%.

The financial crisis of 2007–2009 began in July 2007 when a loss of confidence by investors in the value of securitized mortgages in the United States resulted in a liquidity crisis that prompted a substantial injection of capital into financial markets by the United States Federal Reserve, Bank of England and the European Central Bank (see desktop Financial recession 2007 -..)
