Country Life vs City Life

Living in the City

Advantages: Very connected, big communities, people from every walk of life, everything is at your fingertips, you don't necessarily need a car, access to shopping is easy, different kinds of restaurants, and cultural events, plenty of people to choose from when finding friends, Usually there are good hospitals/medical care. Travel is easier - airports, trains, etc. Laws usually control things like loose dogs and prohibit inappropriate land use, such as a factory in a residential area, more kinds of jobs are available, better access to universities, more things to do, more places to do sports/ social areas.

Disadvantages: Materialism, people are very busy, more expensive, living in apartments can limit you, crowding - people wherever you go, so it's hard to be by yourself. Your neighbors may be able to hear everything you say or do. Noise levels can be very unpleasant. More air pollution than outside city. Often there are higher crime rates and poor schools, although many rural and suburban schools aren't that good either. Costs more for less land, and the taxes are higher. Many limitations on what you can do with your property due to strict zoning. Usually there is no place to grow your own vegetables or many flowers. Many cities have infestations of rats or cockroaches.

Living in the Country
Advantages:
Less polluted, the traffic isn't so heavy. You are fit and you don't need to worry about your health condition, there aren't any huge blocks of flats, modern skyscrapers that may block the view of beautiful landscapes. In the country you are free to admire such things as there are none of those buildings, you can enjoy walking in the forest and picking mushrooms or hunting. Living in the countryside is cheaper than it is in the city because the prices are lower. In the rural area the crime rate is much lower. There aren't a lot of housebreaks and the possibility of burglary is also lower. In the countryside people usually and keep eyes on neighbor’s estates. They always react when something strange is happening. Country life is very peaceful and silent.

Disadvantages:
Living in the country is slower. People don't need to hurry and have a lot of time. People in the country don't have to work so many hours as they do in the city. On the other hand, they don't earn so much money. Moreover, there aren't such interesting things to do during free time. The unemployment rate is also much higher than in the city. The problem may be also the communication. If you don't have your own car, you may have problem how to commute to work. The same problem concerns the access to the hospitals, schools, police stations and shops, which are usually located far from the village. Last of all, there are some dangers connected with country life such as heavy snowfall or rainfall.
