The main goals of education should be that students can use what they learn in school and apply it to everyday life. In high school, students should be educated in what they will need for college and how to live and provide for themselves. In college, students should be educated in what career they are going into and how to effectively apply their skills to the job. In today’s education system, many students are just given information to remember and be tested on rather than actually being taught. A majority of students who graduate high school are uneducated because they are not learning anything; they are just regurgitating the information that is crammed down their throat by teachers. Colleges make students pay for their higher education in order to receive the desired degree. Students entering college do not have thousands of dollars to pay for their education and typically have to rely on scholarships and student loans because not everyone has rich parents who can just pay up front for their child’s education. There are tons of students every year who do not get to go to college because of money issues. College education should not be based on costs. Yes, teachers need to be paid and the supplies and buildings need to be paid for but the cost of a college education is outrageous. People who need extensive schooling for a certain career, like doctors or lawyers, do have to pay more but it is a more reasonable situation than paying thousands and thousands of dollars for a four year college degree. Overall, education has declined but costs of schooling are still going up and the demand for an educated population is becoming more of an issue in America. Education needs to be valued more than money; in most scenarios, in order to make money you need to be educated first making education a more important
