Cataclysmic Cyberbullying Everyday, millions of children, from ages 8-18 are feeling traumatized or depressed from being the recipient of online bullying. With social media being such a crucial part of modern 3society, it is so easy for one hateful tweet on Twitter or one detestable comment on Instagram to have so much power over young impressionable minds. According to a DoSomething.org study, “Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once.” With that statistic in mind, should high schools suspend cyber bullies in an attempt to make the school safer for all children? For most students, suspension will cause the bullying to cease, as their repeated acts of harassment are abruptly brought to their attention. On the other hand, some students may feel as if suspension is just another day home from school, therefore indirectly giving them an excess amount of time to be unfocused on their schoolwork, an out from the consequences of their actions and plenty of time on social media. To explain this adverse effect on students, The American Federation of Teachers states, “Students often return even further behind than they were, and they have little or no support to catch up. Also, during a removal from school, students often engage in even more negative behavior, which results in contact with law enforcement and the juvenile justice system.” The quote plainly concludes why it is illogical to remove students from school when the consequences are so easily recognizable. Instead of banning children from school and essentially rewarding malicious behavior, schools and parents should insist on teaching students how their social footprint destroys other's self esteem, creates a bad reputation for themselves, and how what they say will never be erased from the

Schools around the globe need to be provided with clear boundaries to which their duty of care extends and students, teachers and parents need to be provided with clear avenues to protect them outside the school. Australian legislation and departmental policies have failed to keep up with advances in technology and do not effectively deal with the problems surrounding cyber bullying, either within schools or within society more generally. Australian legislation is extremely limited and requires the adaptation of other legal mechanisms such as anti-stalking and harassment laws to tackle cyber bullying. It also appears that current laws and policies have stemmed from face-to-face bullying measures and are not designed to deal with the new forms of bullying that are possible in the 21st…

Anti-bullying crusaders are urging educators to adopt get-tough measures practiced by one Bay State school to battle teen tormentors, including taking away cell phones and putting classrooms under surveillance. Modern day students have found a new way to harass others through social media sites and electronics. Cyber bullying is on the rise and school administrators are having a difficult time creating a safe learning environment for all students without infringing upon first amendment rights. School officials now have to ask themselves when it is appropriate to punish students for behavior outside of class. All school systems should have the power to override a student’s freedom of speech if that student causes substantial disruption of the school environment.…

I feel that limiting online speech that happens outside of school is an unnecessary punishment that school districts are forcing upon students. Looking at the survey of British school teachers it is said that 84.9% reported not being cyberbullied. The survey also tells if it affected the person and 38.6% of people had no effect. With this type of major percentage it is showing that cyberbullying is not a widespread problem schools are making out to be. I feel that over exaggerating cyberbullying will cause over exaggerating solutions.…

Cyberbullying is when someone is bullying another person online like posting mean things or commenting harshful thing on social media. In 2013, Glendale school district in Los Angeles decided to pay a tech firm to see what students are posting online (Wallace). I would have to agree with Wallace about this idea because it can prevent suicide and cyberbullying.…

Most importantly, public school administrators must familiarize themselves with their state’s anti-bullying laws, including those provisions explicitly addressing cyber bullying. Additionally, as new standards of judicial analysis are created to deal with technology-related first amendment issues, it is imperative that administrators stay current with emerging court decisions. When administrators are faced with cyber bullying issues, they should focus on documenting all instances of disruption that have occurred on campus as a result of the online dispute. The ability to prove that a “substantial disruption” occurred on campus due to off-campus digital postings is an important component of judicial analysis in all cyber bullying court…

“I don’t know why everybody hates me so much. But maybe I do because now I hate me too. Right now, I don’t see the reason for trying, or for talking, or for breathing. Taylor Hillridge finally receives a laptop without her mom controlling on what she’s doing on the internet. Everything from then on goes downhill for Taylor. She tried to commit suicide many times but eventually at the end of the movie, Taylor and her friends stand up to bullying. According to stopbullying.org, cyberbullying is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones. There’s no controversy on whether cyberbullying is bad or not but there is controversy on whether cyberbullying should be addressed by school administrators or not.
