Corwin Dentistry Case Study
Corwin Dentistry
A patient in the waiting room of Corwin Dentistry tells me “My daughter was terrified of every hygienist that reached into her mouth, but ever since we met Shelly coming to the dentist has been a breeze.” Shelly is everyone's favorite hygienist and has provided my family with phenomenal dental care for the past two generations now. Shelly is far past retirement age; she refuses to retire because of the passion that she has for her job. I have always admired Shellys Shelly arrives at the clinic by six every morning. She tells me that she likes the early hours and she said to me with a smile “the earlier you wake up, the more you can accomplish during the day.” She starts the day by reviewing the patients’ charts and makes detailed notes about what she will be focusing on for each

Shelly walks into the small lobby that is filled with chairs and magazines to greet this middle aged man with a warm smile and says to him “Dennis, how are you?” he replies “I’ve been doing good.” While walking through the small hallway back to the hygiene room he lets Shelly know about the sore tooth that he has and she lets him know that she will take a close look at it. While Dennis leans back into the dental chair he talks about his grandchildren and the recent trips that he has taken. Shelly says talks about how much she loves kids and the most recent place that she went sky diving in. Denise says “I have been spending so much money on bills lately I wonder if I could just use a fork to clean out my teeth.” Shelly giggles and responds with “it depends on how much you sharpen it.” Shelly knows all of tricks to being a hygienist. She has an amazing personality and a positive attitude. She has stayed with the same job for her entire life and continues to improve her skills to this day. Shelly loves her job and her patients, I strive to be a hygienist just like

The Nashville Veterans Affairs (VA) dental clinic was a beneficial learning experience because it was a unique population. The VA is committed to improving the health of Veterans through a comprehensive and high quality system, which focuses on each patient's special needs. This mission was important because each patient I saw was completely different with special needs, but they were all similar in a few behavioral ways. My rotation at the VA clinic was helpful because each patient I saw had different medical conditions. It was interesting to learn that all of the VA records were accessible to all of a patient’s providers in the hospital. This seemed important and helpful in my opinion because everything about that patient’s medical treatments…

It completely assists me to know my clients better and for them to be at ease while I take care of their nails. In order to take care of my clients’…

enjoyed the office’s aroma. I frequently visit my Dentist office, not because I needed but I wanted be there. I had the opportunity to learn how to mix amalgam, how to prepare prophylaxis paste, and how to clean and sterilize instruments at early age. Ever since I can remember I knew that I wanted to work in the dental field. For that reason, it was a surprise for me that Dental field was not the unique career which corresponds with my interest and personality type. Plastered on the walls are dramatic “Before/After” photos. They show yellow teeth, set crookedly in red raw gums becoming brilliantly white and straight. The walls are painted a stark, clinical white, however photographs of people with toothy grins beam down at me, from newspaper clippings over the years. It must be my imagination, but already I can taste the slightly stale, bubblegum flavoured gloves, the cool hard metal of the examining probe, and the chink clink it makes when it sometimes collides with my teeth. I can feel the vinyl of the reclining chairs, which are covered in plastic, and also which clammy legs have a habit to stick to. In my mind I see the perfect teeth of my dentist, an ideal advertisement for his clinic.…
