Corrections Officer Officers Suicide
Corrections officers are often asked to work in understaffed and overcrowded facilities. Physical violence, a shared trait with the combat Veteran, is a possibility any day for these officers. Another shared trait between these two professions is PTSD. Corrections officers generally suffer from some level of PTSD during their tenure. Finally, most correctional officers will pass away before their 59th birthday. Corrections officers definitely are one of the hardest civilian professions. (Pittaro, 2015)
In closing, I believe I have presented enough statistical data to prove that combat Veterans commit suicide at a rate greater than that of a non-combat Veteran. I have established a foundation to the reasons a combat Veteran commits suicide

(correctional officers or COs as they are known as, dislike the term "guard") at the maximum-security Sing Sing Prison in New York. Conover, always fascinated by prisons and curious about what the life of a guard was really like, approached the New York Department of Correctional Services with a request to write a profile of the experiences of a new recruit, but was turned down. So he decided that his only option was to become a guard himself in which he would get better incite about prison anyway especially if he was working on the inside of the prison, instead of just hearing stories and not…

Peter, I totally agree with your statement. Keeping a sane mid gram in the work force is imperative. AS a supervisor of staff and inmates, I find myself often times caught up in the games that both sides play. I can only inmagine how stressful it is to be a police officer in today's society. Being in corrections for 12 years has changed my perspective on the way i view people and their circumstances. Before entering my job, I literally have to mentally prepare myself that I may not leave out the same way as I came in. However, I try to think about it too much because it will literally drive you…

There is significant stress associated with the use of deadly force - having to kill another human being (Volpe & Anderson, 1998). No officer is ever emotionally ready to kill another human being. Many officers say that the first thing that came to mind after they fired the fatal bullet was "Thou shall not kill." All of these stressors make police work different from other professions. Of course, the on-going, day-to-day exposure to murders, assaults, rapes, child abuse, domestic violence and "man's inhumanity to man" intensifies this stress-related burden. Vicarious Trauma is a diagnostic term used to depict the cluster of symptoms many police officers suffer as a direct result of the job of policing. In diagnosing trauma-related disorders…

Since being in the military, I have personally dealt with three suicides within the Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) community. One of these three deaths was a close friend of mine. On January 4th, 2014, two days after my birthday, my friend Daniel Lars Shoemaker took his life. This tragic event was shocking because no one knew he was dealing with his demons. However, hindsight is 20/20, and this has left me with a sense of guilt because I feel I could have done something to prevent his actions. I wish I would have been a better Wingman to Daniel.…

Issues surrounding suicide of women in prison is suicide is more common and handled as though it is not a big deal. Prison systems feel as though they are not at fault, that they were merely doing their jobs and release unsympathetic messages. The author quotes, "Framingham's superintendent at the time, now Commissioner Kathleen Dennehy, was reported saying, "The reality is, people are going to die while in custody" (p188). That statement proves the people over the system does not care about these women they just want their checks. Women are not getting the proper treatment amongst entering prisons; they are noting some have mental illness history and are still housing them versus putting them in facilities or even after being placed into the…
