RUSH took on an extensive project for the purpose of evaluating the fitness standards used in hiring of Correctional Officers. The study was at the point when hundreds of staff in the CO series, Officers and Sergeants, had to be tested, voluntarily, to evaluate and validate the testing criteria that had been presented by ION. ION was the outside company that was hired to evaluate and ensure that the fitness test was in compliance with best practice hiring processes as dictated by Federal EEO and ADA law. The testing covered 4 separate complexes, Lewis, Perryville, Florence and Eyman, and ended up with the testing of 183 staff members being administered the proposed testing criteria.     One major cause for the lack of women in law enforcement is the kind of unnecessary physical testing police agencies use in hiring and women are less likely to as aggressive as or less intimidating than male applicants (Spillar). However, in a lawsuit filed in July of 2014, stated that police departments were suspected of using physical fitness test to determine hiring candidates, and yet the physical test that were being administered were not part of the police hiring process.
