S.A.L.T.S Application September10, 2012

Dear Administration and Teaching Staff

This letter is my application to be apart of the S.A.L.T.S sailing trip. This trip sounds like a unique learning experience. I recently had the opportunity to go on a fishing charter. After this experience it made me want to spend more time on boats and the ocean just like my grandpa and dad did in the past. On the trip I experienced helping my dad with steering and sounding for fish and the depth of the water which was really cool. The whole trip was an amazing experience. The sailing trip in which I would like to attend trip would allow me to know how it feels to be on boats and how to work a boat and what goes into running and operating a sailboat. Boats are fascinating in how they work and what some of them are used for and I would enjoy learning and experiencing sailing. This chance to go sailing would also allow me to find out my leadership potentials in my future years as well as be apart of a group and spend time with people I may or may not know. In addition the trip would allow me to further deepen my relationship with God and allow me to share and talk about my faith with my classmates. I have also had some experience with water safety upon my recent swimming achievements of passing level ten swimming. I have plans to apply for leadership in the summer of 2013 at the children’s camp at Northveiw community church. I am confident that this trip would allow me to learn more about the ocean and boats. In addition it would teach me to help out people around me and do things that need to be done and also to branch out of only my group and friends and possibly make more or get to know people I have known for a long time but never really got to know them that well. This would be such an amazing opportunity and I hope to attend this sailing trip.

Thanks

Sincerely
Andrea.

I am applying for the position on Mate on your vessel. I started out on boats at about the age of 8 fishing off the coast of Oregon with a commercial fisherman who was a friend of the family. I have since then only spent about 8 years away from the sea living in Utah. I have loved the sea and all the things that she has to offer. I have spent most of my career working on vessels such as commercial fishing boats, offshore supply vessels, research vessels, Tugs, and some time on the Ferries. I feel that I have a good working knowledge of day-to-day operation on these types of vessels and have excellent knowledge of apparatus that may be on them. My 20+ years of experience with the Seward Volunteer Fire Department has helped me to adapt marine and structural fire tactics. I have been working as a Maritime Instructor in a number of different areas for 8 years.…

The goal of this memo is to persuade high school senior, Micah Jackson to join the marines. Former President Ronald Reagan once said "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem." I briefly spoke to Micah over the phone and set up an interview to come in my office to talk about joining the marines. Micah was very skeptical, however, he did tell me about a few things that were important to him. He also told me about some things that he thought he needed for him to be successful in life. He told me that he wanted to be physically fit, he wanted to travel and he wanted to have financial security and benefits.…

In case there is someone out there looking forward to become a celebrity, then he or she must be able to remain focused in life by emulating James Van Der Zee. This is a man who defied all odds and today is renowned for his great performance in photographic art. His work revolved around the culture of the Africans Americans. This artist was popular because of the way he captured the lifestyles of the middle class blacks using his camera especially during the Harlem renaissance. One of the most appealing photographs is that of the proud black couple in raccoon coats at the street of Harlem[1]. This is called “couple with Cadillac” and it was taken in 1932. Van Der Zee remains outstanding in photography despite the fact that he used black and white colors in his portraits. This made his artworks appear original and authentic which enabled the viewer to appreciate the prolific photographic style employed. Moreover, his images help us appreciate the love, culture and beauty of the Blacks in Harlem. In this paper, I would explore the background of James Van Der Zee and to determine the relevancy of his photographic work.…
