Core Competency Reflection

Core competency six requires that social workers engage in research. I will be linking two practice behaviors to artifacts when I have engaged in research. The first practice behavior is designing and implementing various steps in the research process. This practice behavior relates to a pretest and posttest that I created at my internship for a dialectal behavior therapy group I co-facilitated. The second practice behavior is integrating qualitative and quantitative research in all aspects of advanced generalist practice. This practice behavior relates to a research proposal paper I wrote for my research class.

The research proposal was written with a partner. We were researching the associations between childhood abuse and adulthood external aggression. The research paper highlights several aspects of the research process. The document incorporates qualitative and quantitative information. For instance, the literature review section illustrates the qualitative aspect of research. Moreover, the quantitative aspect of research is highlighted with the data collection and methods section of the paper. During the research process, I had to gather evidence, statistics and collect information from different journal sources to support my hypothesis. This research paper helped me enhance my ability to incorporate quantitative and qualitative research in practice. In addition, engaging in research was beneficial for me to learn about new information in the social work
