Adapted from a Neil Gaiman book, the story of Coraline would be best described as a gothic, horror. It's nothing like most fairy tales, this movie features lots of intense action and lots of spots throughout the movie that gives you an adrenaline rush. It offers a good range of the strange, abnormal and supernatural storyline which includes; bugs, ghosts, and the terrible Other mother.
Coraline can be viewed as a dark and grim fairy tale by most people that choose to watch it. Coraline, whose fantasy world is filled with enchantments, strange creatures, magical toys and talking animals gives you a tense feeling all throughout the movie. This doll is also shown at the beginning of the movie when the credits are showing and it is in the proses of being pulled apart and being put back together again. Originally, you would think of dolls as a comfort toy for most children. They offer a feeling of security. However, this image we have been shown at the beginning of the movie, (the Doll) being turned inside out, tells us that this is no longer a comfort toy and someone has used for evil. This also warns us that something wrong is about to take place in a world of a child. That is the toys purpose and it is much more sinister then we expect, When Coraline discovers a little door she asks her mother to open it up for her, it was just brick blocking it. Coraline was determined to know what was on the other side, but what Coraline didn’t know was that door was much more than a ‘Door’, it was in fact a magical port which takes her to the ‘Other World’. The other world was always better, ask any kid who was taken there. But this place was something she always dreamed
