Coossians 4: 2-6 Sermon Analysis

Colossians 4:2-6 sermon
2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Introduction
- Text says two things about the spread of the gospel o One in how we can be indirectly involved being fruitful and multiplying o Second how we can be directly involved in being fruitful and multiplying

Prayer
- Steadfast o We need to keep connected
That we have constant access to the one who is willing to answer our prayers
- Watchful o Distractions from the mission and prayer
 Watchful for assimilation
• Numb to temptations,
• desensitized to sin,in us and around
o Revelation 3:8, “‘I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut.”
 A word about open doors and how they are commonly used today
 Clarity
• The mystery must be made plain o What is the mystery
 1 Tim 3:16, “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”
• Threats to clarity o Fear of man
 So we try to muddy the truth for fear of being disliked o Hearts that stray from God
 Mark 7:6-9, “And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your
