Contrast Fishing
Compare and Contrast There are many ways to enjoy the gifts that God has given us. Simple things that we may take for granted every day, like the air we breathe, the sun on our skin, or the ocean that surrounds us. Growing up in Hawaii I have found a great appreciation for things like these, especially the ocean. Being surrounded by lots of water it seemed natural to explore the realms of the ocean and what it had to offer. Stereotypically, Hawaiians are known to surf. However, skin diving, and fishing are also a huge part of the Hawaiian culture. There are many different techniques to fishing. In which, you have a pole and a reel of string with a hook tied on at the end. Some people use floaters (mini buoys), weights, lights, and bait (live or synthetic) to enhance this style of fishing. This type of fishing can be done wherever there is water; at a pond, off the shoreline, at a harbor, off a pier, or even a boat. Another advantage is that it is one of the safest ways to fish and you don not have to be in very good physical shape to be good at it. In fact many fishermen like to drink beer and smoke cigarettes while they fish. Skin diving requires you to be in very good shape to be effective. I have seen divers that have dove down to sixty feet and literally lay on the ocean floor for three minutes or more to stalk their prey. This is not an ordinary feat for just any person, but a conditioned hunter of the

Special fishing spots were claimed by individuals, who sometimes leased them to others for a share of the catch. The men built platforms over the stream and caught the salmon with a "lifting net" lowered on a frame. These nets, as well as smaller nets used to scoop fish out of the rapids, were made of fibers from the wild iris leaves. Harpoons were also used to spear fish and eels. After the main run of salmon occurred in the spring, the fish would be dried to provide a supply of food for the year.…

The Tampa Bay Area is a sport fisherman’s paradise. Just within the area there are 200 species of fish and many types of shellfish. In-shore fishing is a dream because the waters are comprised of shallow sea grass beds, mud flats and mangroves; these environments are perfect feeding grounds for many popular gamefish like, Redfish, Sheephead , Snook and Seatrout. I would compare the Tampa Bay Area waters like a fully stocked kitchen for all the Gulf marine life; High tide is the dinner bell and all the fish come running in from deeper water for mealtime! With so much coastline that has a generous amount of piers and bridges sprinkled along it, it’s never hard to catch a bite even if a boat isn’t at your disposal. Off the outer Gulf shores, deep-sea fishing is readily available and very popular here. Many fishing charters businesses thrive here in the Bay Area because the waters are teeming with wildlife and people want to get in on the action. Spearfishing is also another option because of the many dive sites and reefs. The “St. Pete Open” is proof of this; it is the largest spearfishing tournament in the world held right here every year.…

Fish have lots of protein and are very healthy. Most people think just because they don't have a fishing pole and hooks they cannot get fish. Nothing could be farther from the truth, a lot of deferent fish hooks, spears and traps can be made of wood and carved with a knife. If you are fishing with a hook and line there are a few important things you will need. You will need a hook, line, and bait. If you don't have these things they can be easily made. To make a fish hook all you need is a knife and some wood or bone. A very simple and effective hook to make is a gorge hook. All you need to do is take a stick, break it to the length needed then sharpen it into a point at both ends. If you don't have a line you can make one out of tough plant fibers. Basswood, elm, cedar, nettle, yucca are very good plans to use. The fiber will be easier to work with if it is soaked in water for a few minutes. To make the fibers into strong line, tie two ends together, then start twisting the fibers clockwise, twist each one individually and not together, until tight. Then wrap them together in a counter clockwise and tie them at the end. The opposite twisting and wrapping help keep the line from unwinding. To get bait use bugs or worms. When you fish cut open the belly to see what they are eating. If you don't want to stay with your line for hours there are things to do so you don't have to sit there with it. You can make a Twitch-up…
