Contradict Characters In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton

In our world, there are many groups. For example, there are groups in school, groups in sports, and there are also gangs. This book, “The Outsiders” written by S.E.Hinton is about a gang called Greasers and the narrator, “Ponyboy” tells us about what happened the year before telling us the story of everyday life as a Greaser. In this book,the author uses different types of techniques to contradict the characters to their gang. However, the author also does not connect the characters to the gang. I have three different techniques that the author uses to contradict the characters to their gang.
Ponyboy contradict to his looks to his gang, Greaser’s looks. Ponyboy looks alike to many Greasers. For example,”we wear our hair long and dress in blue jeans and T-shirts, or leave our shirttails out and wear leather jackets and tennis shoes or boots. I'm
Since Ponyboy is a Greaser, a Greaser usually gets jumped by a Socs. While Ponyboy tells about how Johnny got jumped, Ponyboy also gets jumped for the first time. “‘ I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn't pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. Johnny was sixteen then.” Page 5. Also on the same page, "Need a haircut, greaser?" The medium-sized blond pulled a knife out of his back pocket and flipped the blade open….."Are you alright, Ponyboy?"” This shows how the Socs jumps onto a Greaser. However, after getting jumped, his brother, Darry helps him and carries him to help him out. Another example is when Ponyboy and Johnny just finished watching the movies and when the Socs came to fight against them. This quote shows how Johnny is loyal to Ponyboy and helping him out. “"You really killed him, huh, Johnny?" "Yeah." His voice quavered slightly. "I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... they were gonna beat me up...."”
