I'm amazed at how many people give credence to these theories. Everyone's an engineer. People who never even took one college science course can now hold forth at great length on how the buildings at the World Trade Center could not possibly have collapsed in the way they did and why the Pentagon could not have been struck by that American Airlines jet.…

Do you remember the Berenstain Bears being the Berenstein Bears? Or think that the United States really wasn’t the first country to step on the moon? The previous questions connect to a few out of thousands of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories are the belief that a person or organization secretly influenced or caused an event. For example, some people believe that 9/11 terrorist attacks were actually planned and carried out by the government, who would blame ISIS and give the government a reason to kill Osama Bin Laden. Conspiracy theorists don’t always know if their theory is true, but they do always think that an event’s “official story” is a cover-up. Conspiracy theory popularity has also gained quite a bit; especially theories like…

Difonzo starts by first defining the term rumor. According to Difonzo, “Rumors are unverified information statements that circulate about topics that people perceive as important; arise in situations of ambiguity, threat, or potential threat; and are used by people attempting to make sense or to manage risk.” One example of a rumor that he used is the bombing allegations after September 11, 2001. One rumor after that bombing was that a hijacked plane was headed for the Sears Tower in Chicago. The rumor was not true. This type of rumor is called human sense making. “The rumor was how people…

After November 22, 1963, the date of the John Fitzgerald Kennedy assassination, a multitude of conspiracies rose up. There were a lot of conspiracies including Oswald acting alone and that Lyndon B. Johnson plan to killed J.F.K. With all of the conspiracies there are, none of them have been one hundred percent proven yet. People have all kinds of opinions on these conspiracies. Even though many people think J.F.K. was assassinated by Oswald acting alone, there is plenty of evidence showing there are other conspiracies possible.…

The role of the American government has always been to protect its people at all costs. Does that include lying to its people or covering up an event? And if they are doing such a thing, are they protecting their people or themselves? Conspiracy theorists constantly create alternative theories to what we are told to believe; some are completely outrageous, but for some theories, it is difficult to deny that there is possibly some amount of truth to them. As crazy as it might sound at first, many believe the government has covered up events ranging from the attack on 9/11 and the assassination of JFK, to the creation of LSD and HIV. Some theories are ridiculous and can be disproved in a heartbeat. Some theories are plausible and could possibly…

Conspiracy theories have been around for many years. The earliest one that I can find in politics was after the Tea Act of 1773. Thomas Jefferson stated that King George was sending armies to kill and oppress the American people. I believe this helped him to gain support in seceding from Great Britain. The second, also involving Jefferson, but was meant to keep him from being elected as president. Jefferson’s opposition claimed that he was part of a secret society, called the Illuminati, and that he was going to destroy the country with terror and tyranny. They also claimed that he was anti-religion. Another conspiracy was when a group, called the Freemasons or Masons, was thought to be behind Aaron Burr wanting to start an independent…

In my opinion, some of those ‘rumors’ could be true. Even though they have already found the bombers and they have been convicted I still am skeptical about the possible government involvement. There were many changes in the story of what had happened which could have been from people questioning the story. It is also going to be hard to find out the truth because one brother is dead and the other is in critical condition at a hospital in Boston.…

    9/11 Conspiracy Essay

However, years later in my first year of my undergraduate government class, the subject of September 11 came up, and during the lecture my professor used words like: cover-up, conspiracy, and set-up. This lecture peaked my interest, so I wanted to know more about the event to prove my professor’s claims. I went onto google and researched 9/11 conspiracy. Fox News judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano states, “It’s hard for me to believe that building seven of the World Trade Center, came down by itself. I think that twenty years from now, people will look at 9-11 the way we look at the assassination of JFK today. It couldn’t possibly have been done the way the government told us” (Hananoki, 2010, para 4). The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) rebutted those claims of a government cover up. NIST stated that fire alone brought down the building, referring to the fire inspection report (Cohen, 2008). In other words, thermal expansion of diesel fuel was the culprit to the building seven collapsing not a government cover. However, David Dunbar and Brad Reagan, authors of Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can’t Stand Up to the Facts, indicate that the NIST report downplays the facts about the diesel fuel that was stored in tanks, for backup generators, did not burn long enough or ho enough to account for structural failures (2006, p. 42). I believe there was more information the government could have disclosed but they chose not to divulge that…
