Conservatism

I am a Conservative because it isn't the job of the federal government to make us successful; it's the job of the federal government to create an environment that allows us to make ourselves successful.

Conservatism appeals most strongly to me because of its ideology and the effect that is has on the United States.

Each person in America subscribes to their own ideology. This consists of a body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, or culture. Conservatives believe in personal responsibility and limited government. Responsibility is a familiar theme of right-wing rhetoric, conservatives argue that people should take care of themselves. Limited Government provides citizens control on how they shape their local environment and policy, giving more citizen access to participate in society. It also grants a stronger free market system so that the citizenry have more opportunity for real, self-created success. Government should take action that everyone should have equal opportunity. Free markets managed by people create healthy sustainable competition ultimately producing better goods and services that would never ordinarily be produced by a liberal government supporting and entitled public drowning in mediocrity.

In a conservative led country, we are supporting the philosophy of our founding fathers by working hard as individuals to provide a better lifestyle for a ourselves and our family. Conservative view point isn't necessarily the right answer, but it does keep people accountable for their individual successes and failures. On the contrary, liberals and social democrats look to other peoples form of success and failures. I’d rather live in a country that values free markets, freedom of choice, and all aspects of life versus living in an environment where everyone is treated equally regardless to the success of each individual.

For conservatives a fundamental theme is to conserve or tradition, tradition leaves the ruling class in its superior position. However in the past conservatives have allowed some reform, such as the emancipation acts throughout the 18th and 19th centuries that finally allowed all men; the employer, the employee or the unemployed the right to vote. This puts forward the idea that conservatism is not or was not a ruling class ideology as the newly emancipated included working class men who may favour other political parties in elections, however it may also be said that the passing of these acts may have had populist effects that benefited the conservatives and gained them more support, this is most likely to have been an intended result.…

    Being Liberal

In a nation with such polar political stances and opinions, I typically view myself as a liberal-leaning member of society. As a liberal, I value the rights of the individual, and the freedoms that we are born with. I take into consideration that opportunity and equality for all is an important idea that should be stressed in our society and should be carried out by our government. I also feel that it is the role of the government to eliminate social problems and protect the natural rights of each individual. I stand on the ground of eliminating the death penalty, enforcing pro-choice decisions, and accepting that Global Warming/ Climate Change is a direct result of poor human decisions and consumptions, along with many other liberal ideas.…

The negative conservative view of human nature allows conservatives to justify their defence of their privileges and prosperity. Conservatives view human nature as morally imperfect. There is uncertainty about natural goodness of human beings and their sense of original sin that humans are innately selfish and as such need to safeguard their possessions and privileges against humans who are inherently immoral. However a Marxist could argue that the conservative view of humans is simply an excuse to protect the interests of the property owning classes in capitalism. Thus conservatism can be seen to reflect the interest of the privileged and the prosperous.…

Property is one of five specific beliefs that make up the central themes of conservatism. It is an asset that possesses a deep and, at times, almost mystical significance for conservatives. Conservatives believe that property has four functions in society: economic incentive, psychological security, social values and a stake in society, and an extension of an individual’s personality.…

Not just as Americans but as human beings we all want the same basic things in our daily lives. We all seek freedom and yearn for prosperity. We all seek for what is fair in life and not just our lives separately, but the lives of our nation’s people. We want less people to suffer as much as possible, especially our children. We all seek the best for our health being. We all want a crime free nation and crime free streets in our communities. We all want a freedom to speak and voice our opinions; yet the one major key argument is how do we achieve all of these? With all that has been going on in our nation’s economy, we begin to analyze one of the very most important, yet controversial political issue that we are facing: Liberal or Conservative? Although we are united as a whole nation, but when concerning our nation’s political policies we are very much divided. Each of us has our own beliefs and our own opinion, but the beauty of this is that this is what makes this country. This belief was instilled in our bloods from the day this great nation was formed, by our political forefathers up until now. We sometimes call these beliefs Left or Right based on the political spectrum. The political spectrum We have learned to become conservative toward the nation, our nation’s people and our nation’s policies, as well as we have learned to become liberal toward the nation, our people and our nation’s policies. Which is right you might ask, that all depends on every individuals different view and opinion to do what is right and best for them? Conservatives and Liberals differ on what they believe is correct for the government. They seek different essential needs, different government program support, different social views, and very different economic views.…

Liberals believe and put their trust in government action to achieve the equality in life for all. They place all the power and responsibility into the government’s hands. They believe this is the most effective way for a country to function properly. Conservatives on the other hand, do not believe in the government being the reign leader but believe in personal responsibility, free markets, individual liberty and traditional American values. Conservatives place the main power into an individual to solve an issue rather than going to the government for help.…

Conservatism was a reaction to all other ideologies. It believed in conserving the best of the past and governing society with reform, not revolution. In the French revolution there was a lot of uncertainty because people did not know what to do afterward and they ended up in a worse position then they were before. Conservatives believe that humans are; psychologically imperfect, which means that we are security seeking creatures who dislike change. They believe we are intellectually imperfect which means we are incapable of acting rationally and are very instinctive. They believe we are morally imperfect which means we are born sinful and conservatists have a profound scepticism about our natural goodness.…

Personally, I tend to lean towards the conservative view that was present in the 19th century, but the neoliberal position in the modern world. This is because of the key difference between then and now, globalization. While domestically, I would support the conservatives in their view of government regulation for the welfare of the people, I believe that internationally, it is better to allow the liberal and capitalistic models form through increased economic interaction than through…

In life, Trying to get your political views translated and trying to get people to believe and/or agree with them is a daunting task. In my class, there was often debates that occurred between which political ideology was more realistic and ideal in todays shifting society. It really comes down to if more government in the life of Americans is better or if less government involvement is the way to go, which is the approach I took. Instead of committing to an uphill battle of getting conservatives to agree with views of liberals and vice versa , I…

I do believe this is a fair assumption to say that conservatism should not be a single ideology because so many conservatives are so divided amongst themselves nowadays. According to Google search the definition for conservative is the act of holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion. I believe the ideology of conservatism is used as a political base that many other forms of conservatism branch off into its own political ideas and ideologies. There is a political spectrum that goes: Far Left (Consistently Liberal) to Mostly Liberal to Moderate to Mostly Conservative to (Consistently Conservative) Far Right. There are several different forms of conservatism that go along the spectrum, such as Neo-conservatism, Traditionalist conservatism, Classical conservatism, Libertarian conservatism, Social conservatism, and the list goes on. For example, the Neo-conservatism wanted to convert the current conservatism groups and Republicans “into a new kind of conservative politics suitable to governing a modern democracy.” (Kristol, pg. 189, Online) This would hold true…
