Jazz Concert Report The concert I decided to go to was held in Valley Brewing Company. The event was called “Take 5, Jazz at the Brew”. I went to the show July 11, 2013. The group I saw didn’t have a name. It was just a group of people performing together. The concert hall was a very nice venue. It was on an extended closed off area past the common area at the bar. The area was very dim lit and was decorated very fancy and elaborate. The music that was played that night was Jazz. The group had 4 people in the group and they all came from different backgrounds. The Drummer was a young African American male that was very talented. The trumpet player was a heavy set Caucasian male that looked like he was 35 or so. The cello player was a 28 year old young male with long hair in a ponytail. I assumed the leader of the group was the pianist because he spoke on the microphone and announced everyone’s name that was playing an instrument. There was also an older African American gentleman that was at the bar that played the saxophone. He only played two songs because it was his birthday so he was enjoying himself at the bar. They played about 5 different songs but I could only catch four of them. The first song they played was called “You Don’t Know What Love is”. They didn’t mention who made the song. The song had a rough texture. All the instruments were playing very loud and wildly throughout the song. There wasn’t much form to this song. The saxophone was playing its own tune while the piano, cello, and drums had some type of repetition. There wasn’t a melody. I felt like they were playing off each other’s energy. There was some rhythm to this song but majority of the time it sounded like it was all freestyle. I think its just because jazz is played like that. The dynamics to this song was very soft and low key aside from the saxophone. The tempo was slow at first then it really picked up 30 seconds into the song. Overall

Music 118B Concert Report #1 Jazz Combos Concert Evaluation Before taking Jazz class I barely knew anything about this type music. Six different bands performed fifteen pieces. Most of the pieces are written by popular Jazz composers, such as “Cantaloupe Island” by Herbie Hancock or “Donna Lee” by Charlie Parker. Also, there was one band that performed pieces written by its members, which really impressed me. For example, “Preparation” was composed by Alex Reiff, who plays bass in the band…

Concert Report The Wayne Shorter Quarter concert was unlike any concert I have ever been to. The variety of instruments and style of the performers contributed to a unique experience. Not only was the music I heard versatile on several levels, but the behavior of the performers, appearance of the audience, and atmosphere of the venue contributed to my take away from the show. These factors allowed me to obtain a better understanding of jazz as not only an art form, but as a culture. The audience…

I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started…

some videos of a jazz trumpeter playing a complicated solo with her band and Joseph decided he wanted to be just like her someday. Learning the trumpet took a substantial amount of time, so Joseph practiced every day after school for at least an hour. Joseph's rapid progress and enthusiastic dedication impressed his band teacher, Ms. Watson. One day in early October, Ms. Watson stopped Joseph after class had ended. "I think you're ready for a solo when we have our winter concert in six weeks. How…

For this Jazz concert report, I chose to attend the opening night of the 2013 Brubeck Festival on Monday, March 18th from 7-9:30pm in Stockton, at Valley Brew’s Take 5. I had never been to Valley Brew before and was pleasantly surprised of the warm and casual ambiance. The building had a Chicago-type feel with brick walls, and exposed ducts and pipes; super laid back. The south end of the building away from the restaurant and main bar is where the Jazz concert was held. This room was a swanky…

Salsa Jazz Band Concert On the 9th of November I went to the salsa jazz band concert. This all took place at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus in the Alfred L. McCarthy Hall Auditorium. I arrived at the campus around 7 pm, half an hour before the concert started and parked in the garage. At the garage, I met up with my friend Elizabeth with whom I have for the jazz and pop class. From there we both walked to the auditorium with her brother and waited outside for a bit. As I walked in the first thing…
