I Deserve to Carry a Gun The question is: to carry a gun or not to carry a gun? That is a huge question in our world today. I think people should be able to decide for themselves. Guns protect people and make people feel more comfortable in dangerous situations. Even long ago, women and men both would carry a gun on them—they were hidden somewhere or on display in a holster. Any competent person should be able to carry a gun on them for their own protection.
In the essay titled, “A Peaceful Woman Explains Why She Carries a Gun,” Linda M. Hasselstrom emphasizes the need for concealed carry at least among women. Her exaggerated content about how bad it could get could all be true, but was she stretching the truth a little to make it worse than it seemed? Hasselstrom goes into detail about why she thinks conceal carry is more important than just kung fu lessons to point out just how much more control a gun would have than a woman’s own body (560-563). Since 1994, the total violent crime in the United States has decreased by a huge margin. Criminals realized people were starting to carry guns so they were more cautious. I believe if we allow humans to carry a gun on them, there would be fewer crimes. Why ban guns from being carried? There are so many other things in this world that can be used to murder just as well as a gun. A statistic given in an article “7 FACTS You May Not Know About Gun Control” on the website Independent Journal Review in 2011, proved for every 1 person that was killed by a rifle, 1.5 was killed by a club or a hammer. The power of just carrying a gun on you over powers those people who want to commit crime to you. The person who is about to commit the crime may not be able to see the gun on you at first glance.
