Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

One of the greatest innovations in technology is the emergence of computer technology that contributes much to the global awareness in modern technology. This advancement of computers makes a real difference in every human life from the past decades especially with their works and daily activities. It became fast accurate and easier. Computers commonly used by companies, agencies, organizations and educational institutions and also at home and offices. The data storage is considered the heart of information center (Kendall and Kendall, 1999). According to Rice (2006), computers enhancement proved to be more remarkable and even for a global communication to access immediate information system to information technology that is used by people to accomplish specified organizational individual object. The technology that may be used in gathering, processing, storing and dissemination of information and the users are trained in the use of that technology; as well as in the procedures to be followed in doing so. Information System (IS) is any combination of information technology and peoples’ activities using the technology to support operations, management and decision making. In a very broad sense, the tern IS is frequently used to refer interaction between people, algorithmic process, data and technology. In this sense, the term is used to refer not only to the information and communication technology and organization users, but also to the way in which people interact with this technology and support the business processes (Kroenke, 2010). The Record Keeping Management System of the Faculty and Staff of Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus is the area of the study. It is commonly observed that some school campuses are using the manual operation of record keeping system. The Eastern Samar State University Salcedo Campus is an institution offering different courses. There are Faculty and
