I. Introduction
“Across the world there is a passionate love affair between children and computers . . . And more than wanting [computer technology], they seem to know that in a deep way it already belongs to them. They know they can master it more easily and more naturally than their parents. They know they are the computer generation.” —Seymour Papert, The Connected Family, 1996

The revolution of computer technology has played an important role in everyone’s life, even children’s. Now with help from government and parents, not only can they use computers at home but they will probably know how to use them at school as well. Even though there are some good reasons why children should be accustomed to computers at the early age, adults should consider possible negative effects of excessive computer use on children.

II. Reasons
A. Helping children study
The first reason why children use computers early is that computers assist children to study. In the past, when they had any problems with study, they would ask adults for help, or go to the library. Now they find it unnecessary to do so. Computers with Internet access can help students in many aspects - searching for information, doing homework and preparing for their subjects (Brian, 2011). It is easier for students to find what they want online than finding it in the library. Moreover, some software also allows students to draw pictures and create multimedia presentations (Brian, 2011). More subjects require students to do the presentations, so that kind of software can make their presentations more interesting with pictures, charts and sounds. Since computers have more influence at school, the number of children using computers keeps increasing.

B. Having parents’ approval
Nevertheless, one more important reason is parents’ allowance. Generally, adults agree that if children want to be successful in life, they must acquire some computer use skills, such as using Microsoft Word to write a report, sending emails to the customers. It is said that most parents believe the Internet can help their children improve their learning skills as well as discover the world. Moreover, they also think children without access will have disadvantages compared to those with access (The David and Lucile Packard Foundation., 2000). Therefore, they allow children to use computers very early. As a result, the number of children provided with home computers surges. One survey conducted home with children from 2 to 17. They found out that home computer ownership grew from 48% in 1996 to 70% in 2000, with Internet access from 15% to 52% in the same period of time (Susan, 2000). *

III. Transition
There is no doubt that computers do help children with their academic skills. However, not every child knows how much time one should spend on computer every day. A large number of children are overusing it, which can cause many serious problems.

VI. Impacts
A. Physical problems
First of all, some physical problems can be a result of excessive computer use. It will affect their vision, because computers are not designed for children (The David...
