Computer Forensics Examination
Based upon my computer forensics training and experience, knowledge of computers and related technologies, and analysis of the evidences presented for the forensics examination, it is my expert conclusions that:
Based on all the evidences I have found on the hard drive images, it is possible that FM has involved in trademark infringement. Basis of my conclusion is based on the emails, and email attachments found on the PST file of LRU, FM assistant manager, FM finance department, WKA finance department, and the sales receipts found on the WKA finance department’s hard drive image. Following are the evidences:
• Finance Department of LRU sent to Assistant Manager of FM, Store Manager of FM, VP of FM, Shipping department of FM, Assistant Manager

She warned VP and store manager of FM that if they continue selling this t-shirt, they are going to get in trouble. But VP replied saying, “do not concern yourself with this matter. Let us worry about the legal matter”. Which clearly indicates that they were aware of selling trademarked t-shirt illegally. Please refer Exhibit 4, Section A6, pg. 27 for the screenshot of the email.
• Finance department sent and excel spreadsheet to VP of FM as an attachment. The spreadsheet contains the transaction between FM and WKA. Please refer Exhibit 4, Section A7, pg. 29-30 for the screenshot of the email and attachment.
• Found sales receipts from March 2003 to June 2006 on WKA Finance Manager. Receipts are from WKA to FM with the product description of “legal 220 is the coolest class ever” with the unit price of $4.00 USD. Product description and the price on the receipts match with the email conversation between FM and WKA in Exhibit 4, Section A4, pg. 24. Please refer Exhibit 4, Section C1, pg. 35 for the screenshot of the folder that contains all the receipts and Section C1, pg. 37 for one of the screenshots of

After the preservation phase, forensics are required to locate and identify any evidence that can be used to aid the crime case. There are several locations where evidence are usually found such as in the hard drive on the user’s personal computer, laptop, smart phone or tablet (ACPO, 2012). It is also critical that forensics are aware of the intention of the particular investigation. This aids in the forensics' efforts of locating digital evidences that are relevant to the case. For example, in the case of a server intrusion, forensics should look out for signs such as a rootkit installation, analyze configuration files, logs files and etc. These are possible locations and processes where traces of evidence can be picked out from (Carrier and Spafford, 2003).…

The rapid development of websites like ebay’s had created new ways for sellers and buyers to connect to each other. These new markets have also given counterfeiters new opportunities to expand their reach.
