We are in charge of the computer, and not the other way around. The web should be used to deepen the thoughts of our brains instead of letting the shallowness of our thoughts deepen googles search…

In the article In Defense of Technology wrote by the author Andrew O’Hagan believes the opposite. That technology has actually made a huge improvement in our lives. He argues that life would be much difficult without its use. We depend on technology at many times because it does many beneficial things for us and not even mentioning time saving. It benefits us in great ways like collecting information, socializing and much more, but we mostly we use it to save time. Tech has never been harmful to any human at any point in time O’Hagan quotes, “Technology is not doing what the sci-fi writers warned it might; it’s not turning us into digits or people that hate community, instead of the opposite.” It is helping our communities in ways like recycling, entertainment, safety and much more. When an individual can sit in their house relaxed and putting in an order on the internet that’s going to arrive at their house the next day, compared to the old days it’s a miracle how it improved this much. Killing loneliness and provincialism is something you can do…

They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world.” I have experienced technological advancements by working with any new software on a computer and the constantly evolving world of phones and computer, so I have some mixed feelings in agreement to both views. It is through this I have learned that technology evolving can be good but it does, at times, come with heavy burdens and consequences for the…

Computers have been our best friend for rather a long time. Nowadays we seek technology, and we cannot live without it. Our consciousness tries to pull us into it deeper and deeper. The real problem is not that we are not able to escape, but we do not want to escape. The virtual life has made us a very comfortable place to work, play or communicate. We believe that the technology life is real when it is not. Computers are not bad, and they are not going to give us any harm if we will use it in a right direction. The realization of that, unfortunately, has not come to us yet. Technology used in a wrong way is bringing us to fear of sharing feelings in a real life and not having the knowledge of computers. In this essay, I would like to support Sherry Turkle’s views on today’s impact. She is a professor at MIT who has some very interesting ideas and thoughts.…

David Gelernter is a professor of Computer Science at Yale University. He used his intellect to write a very effective essay on Computers and the Pursuit of Happiness to explain to us that we are not living in an “information age”. He helps us to understand by explaining that people living now are no happier than people living in the 50’s, solely because we have the use of computers in everything we do. Sure, computers make everything easier and more efficient, but it does not deliver us from our basic instinctual needs. One of his points that had a large impact was that if you find yourself in need of more money, or more information, you do what is necessary to obtain what it is that you are longing for. Once you reach this goal, you are no happier than you were before and you might even find yourself in need of more still. This article, among many since 1945, was published in the premier monthly magazine “Commentary Magazine”. This magazine has published some of America’s most controversial and intellectual articles of our time. Their website says “To read it is to take part in a great American discussion”. Gelertner’s intended audience would be anyone interested in Democracy, controversy, intelligent discussion, and maybe a bit of debate as well. His intended audience would clearly be looking for a topic that sparks a conversation on the matter and brings forth many different ideologies, opinions, and perspectives.…

The entire purpose of this paper is to find out the answer to the question: How does technology affect our daily lives?” Many different sources said many different things, however they somehow all connected at one point or another. “Body and Soul: Beware of Digital Gluttony,” by Kate Wicker, suggests that technology is now apart of us and our lives and there isn't much we can do to change it. “Technology is a real part of our lives, we are living in an “ICulture” whether we like it or not.” (Wicker. Pg.21) She has made it clear that she believes that whether we see technology in a positive or negative way, it’s here to stay. However, Williesha Morris, author of “Technology Addiction: Breaking the Chain,” says something a little different. “If you're an executive over the age of 30-35, you remember a time when such devices didn’t exist. They weren’t needed then, so why are they so crucial now?” (Morris.Pg.17) Morris seems to believe that we don't need them today, or she's at least questioning why society relies on technology as much as it does.…

In 1981, IBM sold the first "PC", made from an 8088 processor with a clock speed of 4.77 MHz. It wasn’t the first computer ever made, but it was the first computer sold to ordinary people. We have moved on, we have made changes, and we have progressed to enhance computers. Computers have found their way into many aspects of our lives. In most cases computers make things easier for us. Computers have helped us so much, yet people seem to think we have come to be too dependent on them. Are computers really hurting our lifestyles? They have allowed us to learn, to communicate, and to organize making life just a little less stressful. Computers are great for the future of our world and will be greatly needed as we have many more things to discover in the near future and beyond. People may complain and argue that computers are just too much but they will see the truth when life needs more organization ,more communication and more education.
