Electronic prescriptions- communication has been cited as the single biggest block in such prescription errors leading to wrong reading by the pharmacist. This has been designed as a total remedy to this problem. •
Personal digital Assistants- are literally handheld computers that help patient management. Using a PDA, the nurse can access patient’s laboratory reports, and the latest information on therapies and treatment. This can also be used for billing and updating patient visits. •
Computerized Theatre Management Application- automatically record patient information. The most important aspect of such application is that they facilitate the management of patient supplies with associated refill lists. These systems help to monitor and track the use of implant and surgical items utilized during operative procedures.
How have computers and technology change the way we practice nursing and deliver health care?
Advancement in technology has lead to improved healthcare and patient care. Before the development of electronic IV monitors and pump infusions, anyone who received an IV had it administered under the watchful eye of a nurse. Because manual IV’s were susceptible to stopping or flowing too rapidly, a nurse remained by the patient’s side every time they received an IV. It is easy to see how much time is saved with the electronic IV monitor especially that they are very common.
