TITLE:
“Comprehensive Investigation of the Viability of Solar Power in Delhi- Vision 2020”

INTRODUCTION:
Currently most of Delhi’s electricity comes from thermal power plants which are mostly situated in other states. In 2012, we saw the biggest blackout in the history of the country where half the population was powerless for days. Delhi was severely affected along with other Northern, Eastern and North East states. If 75% of Delhi’s electricity was not generated from coal, and decentralised renewable energy was available, Delhi could have powered itself to a large extent during the grid failure. Unfortunately, Delhi is one of the few states in the country that does not have any policy for alternate sources of energy like wind, solar and biomass. In 2012, in the absence of a policy and roadmap, the state failed to tap into solar and bio-mass energy, especially during the periods of peak demand.
Across Delhi as people suffer in temperatures that are higher than normal, Government’s unfulfilled empty promise is exposed as a pure electioneering tactic that bears little relation to the truth of the serious power problems faced by the people in Delhi and across other cities in India.
The real issue here is the fact that various administrations have failed the people of Delhi; they have not put in place the policies and measures needed to provide adequate, reliable and sustainable power.
It does not have to be like this, there is an answer to this unending problem. The solution is using the very source of energy, that will never run out, and that is the SUN. As in many cities across the world – including

The last decade has been harsh enough for the people of Nepal. The power cut being hiked up to 16 hours a day in 2009 provides testimony to the fact that Nepal has been hard hit by energy crisis. Given the over-increasing population, along with rapid industrialization and urbanization, the demand of electricity continues to mount, especially in urban and commercial areas. The nation, however, has not been able to supply enough to meet its demand. This year itself the power cut roared up to 80 hours a week. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) concedes that severity of load shedding will not diminish in the short term (refer to “Bartaman Load Shedding Lai Tat Kaal Samadhan Garni Upaya Haru Ko Sammandha Ma Sabai Pakchya Haru Ko Adhyan Gari Sujav Dina Jal Shrot Mantralaya Ko Nirnaya Anusar Gathit Samiti le Pesh Gare Ko Pratibedhan report originally available at - www.nea.org.np)…

This paper has identified the problems with solar home system in Dhaka city. In spite of significant success of solar home system in the rural sector, this new industry is not without its problems which include high cost, sub standard solar panels and battery, low generation capacity and lack of knowledge about the technology. Our research is limited to the problems faced in acquiring, installing and using Solar Home System (SHS) in the residential apartments of urban Dhaka city. This proposed exploratory research is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary research includes lead-user survey of housing developers and suppliers of the technology to identify the problems in acquiring and installing Solar Home System, a pilot survey on the end-users of solar-power, namely, the households residing in those apartments with solar home system, and finally an experience survey to identify the causes and possible solutions of the problems. In analysis of the qualitative data, two methods of analysis has been used: analytical induction & data display and analysis has been used. The findings from this analysis have been used to develop hypothesis and suggest further studies. This research has found that the government regulation is very vague and has been imposed on households who lack sufficient knowledge, incentive and interest to implement Solar Home System (SHS). The market also lacks regulation to monitor and control quality and price. Housing developers are yet to realize this discrepancy in quality so there is no benchmark in the market. Solar panels and batteries use-up a lot of space in the apartment buildings which is a big concern for the developers. However, many apartments have made clever installation of the equipments maximizing the utility of existing common space without creating any problem for the residents. Implementing Solar Home System is considered an…

Furthermore, renewable energy is a very niche market. It makes up only 8% of the total energy industry. SolarWorld’s practice, active solar technology, occupies just 1% of the total renewable energy due to its high cost and capital investment. This leaves a big hole for threat of substitutes such as coal, nuclear or natural gas energy, which are mostly the primary choice before renewable energy.…

The most crucial problem that Indian democracy faces today is the political instability at Central level and state levels. The instability mounted as no single party getting a clear cut majority in forming the government due to the fractured political opinion of the electorate and swindling of multi –party system. Coalition politics has become an essential feature of present day Indian democracy.…

India needs lot of Electricity for its growing needs and only some type of electricity generation which does not affect the environment should be preferred. Some of the types are Hydel power, wind power, solar and nuclear. Hydel power is generated at the expense of water and it displaces some water for the purpose of generation. The power generated is directly proportional to the availability of water. The way the greenery is reducing there won’t be sufficient rain fall and sufficient water to generate power. Wind and solar power generation techniques are very clean but are very dilute sources of power and cost of generation per unit is very expensive.…

Bangladesh is experiencing an acute shortage of electric power that is likely to be worsening day by day which stresses the need for the deployment of renewable energy resources to extenuate this energy crisis. Since Bangladesh is a country which is abundant in natural resources; the substantial availability of renewable energy sources in the form of solar, biomass, biogas, hydropower and wind energy can provide opportunities of sustainable energy based development. In Bangladesh, nearly 72% of the population lives in rural areas and renewable energy is considered to be the right choice for providing clean energy to these remote settlements. Among all other renewable energy sources the most obvious and realistic choice is solar energy. Solar energy is available in abundant amount on earth and shifting our electricity requirements on solar energy is most likely to be the option in coming future. Solar energy is an ideal solution as it can provide gridless power and is totally clean in terms of pollution and health hazards. Since it saves money on constructing electricity transmission lines, it’s economical as well. Little wonder that it is becoming popular in Bangladesh. The number of households using solar panels has now crossed the one million mark, the fastest expansion of solar use anywhere in the world. In 2002, just 7,000 households in Bangladesh were using solar panels, but now more than one million households, or five million people, are benefitting from solar energy.…

During the past decade it has been seen quite clearly that Democracy in India is struggling to provide the basic necessities to people; 33% Indians live the below poverty line, 56 lakh villages don’t have power connection and drinking water access. Moreover the public education system is in shambles, there is a lack of accountability, lack of internal security and various public schemes fail to reach the beneficiaries. Even worse, our Leaders are so shameless that they are least bothered by frequent exposure of their wrong doings. We accept the idleness and ‘unrestrained corruption’ by “public servants” to be as inevitable as death and taxes.…
