Complex Sentences:
1. While the lethargic dwarf Sleepy moped about the cottage, Snow White galvanized him by unexpectedly singing a song about working in order to inspire a greater work ethic from the sluggish dwarf.
Metacognition:
I used juxtaposing adjectives to word to provide a clear differentiation between Sleepy and Snow White. These adjectives lead to the shock brought on by the word. The purpose of a complex sentence is to depreciate one clause in order to make the other one more prominent. For this reason, I intentionally placed the word in the independent clause. Also, by getting Snow White to drive Sleepy into action, the effect of the word is clearly demonstrated.

I used a compound-complex sentence because of how much context can be included without detracting value from the main clause. The subordinate clause provides a setting and the first independent clause provides background information on the conflict at hand. World War I was a truly heinous time for Americans because of how we treated those who were against the war and those who were from the lineage of our main enemy—Germany. Support for the war effort and desire for victory clouded the judgement of Americans which is a clear example of the word.
2. Micah struggles with satire in AP Language Composition because she does not understand ideas that are not literal; however, Micah is very adroit when she perfectly emulates periodic sentences from famous authors for her Lang Activities.
I used a periodic sentence to build up the struggle this student has finding his own method of academic success. The gerund phrases of the periodic sentence also provides context for the sentence because of the boy’s in ability to be perfect at answering difficult questions.
