Competency Goal
At this moment, I work as a Retail Manager for a small business. I adore the role I play as a retail manager. However, my heart lies in the health care field. I started out focusing on becoming an RN, but private circumstances prevented me from doing such that. Then I decided to make a career change and pursue a degree in healthcare administration. While pursuing this degree I hope to build on the knowledge I already possess.

Through this course, I have expanded my knowledge of available resources, key roles, and steps required in the organizational planning process. For example, every organization must have a mission and value statement to follow; but not everyone will do so, and this causes the complexities in the workforce. Without a clear goal, employees are unable to analyze and implement effectively.

    Health Care Summary

Health Care Administration is a profession I found myself drawn to. Early in my career I believed I wanted to be an attorney. As I entered college and began doing research, working with an attorney, I found that I had a knack for research and talking with people so I became a paralegal. When I graduated in 1999 as a paralegal, I fell on hard times, had children, but I did a lot of freelance work for different attorneys in the area. At this point, health care was not something I was looking to as a profession. In 2001, I came across a health care professional and after talking with her she said how she sees the potential within me to be in health care. At this point I was offered a job as a secretary within the infectious disease department at one of the major hospitals in Mississippi. This job started my 10 year journey to the introduction of my career in health care. As years went on, I realized that my calling is health care but I was confused as to what I actually wanted to do. In 2007, I entered and was accepted into the LPN program. I made it all the way to the last semester and I realized that health care administration was the key for me. Upon my more research I found University of Phoenix Health Care Administration Program and I have loved it from day one.…

To maintain a commitment to professionalism dedication is the key to success. I dedicate myself to my job by going online to research what I will put in my lesson plans such as arts & crafts, songs and sensory projects. Most of the time I bring work home with me to finish last minute projects that I like to display on my boards. This includes printing out an activity descriptor and pictures that go with the art work the infant/toddler has done. I also like to take a lot of pictures of what we are doing in the classroom especially showing the infants and toddler working on art projects to have it displayed on my board.…

My field of study is health services administration (HAS). I choose this career for various reasons. First, I can work in a healthcare setting without having direct hands on with patient care. Second, the potential for career advancement in many different sectors of the job looks promising. Third, there are many different types of agencies I can work for such as; city, state, county, federal, and governmental facilities. HSA’s can also work in healthcare settings or non-healthcare settings. There is also excellent earning potential which accompanies the gratification of the leadership role. Finally, with continued education, there is much room for self- improvement. “In a learning organization, the individual’s personal and professional development (PD) is viewed as crucial to the organization’s success’ (Gumus, Borkowski, Deckard, & Martel, 2011, p. 42-63).…

Organizational planning is a well thought out and practical process involving all levels of management: top-level (strategic managers), middle-level (tactical managers), and frontline (operational managers), as well as their departments, and the individuals that make up those departments. This process begins with upper management creating a mission statement that sets clearly defined reasons for the company’s existence, as well as goals for the company. Strategic goals are then created to outline the future direction of the company as a whole, as well as defining the logistics needed to meet these goals. Tactical goals are then set on a departmental level, which aids in determining what work is needed to accomplish the goals set by the company.…

Planning is essential to any organization because it develops and executes tasks that the organization wishes to accomplish. First the organization defines its mission. A major organization in the oil and gas industry, Halliburton, has defined a value statement for employees to take pride in and customers to put their trust in. “The Halliburton’s Cementing Advantage” states that the “team’s mission is to provide top quality, fit for purpose, cement solutions and first class, reliable job execution to our customers, worldwide” (Halliburton, 2006). It goes on to inform customers that the organization is built on success, reliability, leadership, experience, and talent. Then the Halliburton slogan is revealed: “Done Right, Done Once.” Then the mission statement is closed with a promise to treat each customer based on their specific needs.…
