Competency Goal 1 to Establish and Maintain a Safe, Healthy Learning Enviroment
Safe :
Candidate provides a safe environment to prevent and reduce injuries.

While caring for infants and toddlers my goal is to provide a safe environment for exploration by following safety policies and procedures. Throughout the day all spaces are checked for hazards and kept free of clutter to avoid problems during an emergency. Their environment should always be inspected for choking hazards. A daily routine is maintained to ensure the indoor and outdoor play areas are free of hazardous exposures. A Daily indoor/outdoor checklist form is completed twice daily to document room conditions. As a caregiver it’s important to provide children with a sense of security through words and actions, which encourage exploration and support developmental growth. A critical factor must be to assure that all infant age groups are supervised by sight and sound to ensure accountability at all times. An adult-infant ratio 1:4 must be maintained and documented on the “We Care Sheet” every 15-30 minutes. All rooms in the center maintain a first aid kit that is checked daily and stocked as needed. Current medical special needs documents are posted and medication used for allergic reactions are attached to the first aid kit. I’ve been trained in First Aid, CPR and am also a certified EMT-Emergency Medical Technician. Our room has an evacuation diagram posted at fire exits and all employees are trained on emergency evacuation procedures. Our center works closely with the DLA Fire Department which provides monthly fire drills to ensure established procedures are being followed. The monthly drills allow the opportunity for infants to become familiar with the process. As a caregiver it’s important to provide an environment where infants can feel protected from harm and can grow. Providing a safe environment allows for an “in safe hands” exploration of their environment .Our families depend on us to follow set procedures and prevent injuries. Being a role model for

They are allowed to wait in the reception area as long as the escort or diver accompanies them from the car and hands them over to the contact supervisor. We have family contact rooms with activities and toys in, which can be used with the proper supervision. There are panic alarms in case of emergency (verbal abuse, physical, or medical) to raise alarm. All contact supervisors have their own work mobile phone, to gain help from Police, Fire Ambulance if necessary. If a fire occurred you would set of the fire alarm to warn everybody that there was a fire and all staff and children would leave the building in a calm and sensible way to the designated point. To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. I am certified in First Aid and CPR, which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries.…

Safety at Precious Moments Daycare is our utmost priority as well as a very important daily task. A child’s growth is essentially influenced by a safe and healthy environment this is why it is very important to follow our licensing regulations. We arrive fifteen minutes before the 1st child arrives to ensure we go over our daily safety checklist, this includes making sure electrical outlets are covered and cords are our to children’s reach, smoke/fire alarm are in working order, all means of egress; are not being blocked. I believe that caregivers with a solid background in childhood development, effective communication skills, and the ability to create developmentally appropriate learning experiences are much more beneficial to a young child’s education than someone without one or all of these qualities. It is important to keep up on trainings, this also helps us caregivers keep up-to-date with new and improved ways to care for our children. In our daycare we practice monthly fire drills as well as shelter in place twice a year. Security is very critical, parents know that if a person is not listed on the emergency list, he/she may not pick up the child/ren furthermore, if person is…
