Compass Vs Straightedge Research
Getting a good grade in geometry is very important, yet very hard to do if you cannot properly construct geometrical figures. Using a compass, a tool used to make arcs, and a straightedge; like a ruler, used to draw straight lines; helps students to properly construct figures. It is better to use a compass and straightedge to construct figures, than a drawing program online. One reason compasses and straightedges are important is that they are reliable. Using a drawing program, one might accidently press the wrong button, and ruin their whole construction. When the internet crashes, compasses and straightedges can still be used. Compasses and straightedges are also very easy to use compared to an online drawing program. Online programs have

To create a line segment and copy it, I connected points a and b to create a line segment. Then, I took my compass and placed the tips on points a and b to measure it. I placed my compass on point c and drew another line segment connecting the line to point d and so created my copied line segment. To create the hexagon inscribed in a circle, I created points n and o and drew a circle around them making the two points my radius. Then, I measured points n and o to create point p on the circle and keeping the same measurement I created point q on the circle and repeated this process until I had created points all around the circle (r, s, and t). Finally, I connected the point p to point q then, to point r and so on until I had a hexagon.…

Graphs and diagrams are also helpful when it comes to comparing data. When it is written out in words it can be confusing whereas a chart both can accurately compare and measure over a certain period of time. Visual learners process information the best through graphical tools which allows them to interpret data in a logical manner. Students with this learning style should formulate their notes in an orderly fashion, so that they would be able to visualize how the pieces of the puzzle are connected.…

I believe there is an importance in using a real compass and straightedge. Firstly, writing things down and creating things on paper has a longer lasting effect. Therefore, when one uses a compass and a straightedge to construct, copy, and bisect angles, lines etc., it is more hands on and has a more permanent effect. When one uses these tools, they are able to effectively adjust widths, and lengths. One of the problems with computer automated programs, is that one does not get the hands on effect of adjusting the widths and actually visualizing the process. In other words, one does not achieve the full experience, which is so important to understand in our everyday life. Another problem is that many of these programs automatically program…

Putting Geometry to Work, if you need an example of how geometry affects you on a daily basis, you need do nothing more than take a look around. What do you see? Maybe it's a bridge. Notice the steel girders underneath? They're arranged using very specific geometry angles to give the bridge its stability. Geometry also dictates the way your home was built, with angles and lines that make the walls sturdy and allow the roof to shed water and snow. Maybe you see some people shooting pool. Ever wonder how pool players gauge their shots? They use geometric angles to try and estimate how the balls will react once they're struck. If all this thinking gets to be too much, try drinking a can of soda. Ever wonder how they know that a can is exactly 12 oz.? There's a geometric formula that dictates the can's size so that it contains exactly the right amount. The machinery that filled the can is also based on geometric formulas. People use similar principles when they're cooking at home. Cake pans and pots are all specific, standardized sizes that wouldn't exist if we didn't have geometry.…

Comenius in the "big teaching theory" clearly states that "all knowledge comes from senses the beginning." Senses of people at the entrance of knowledge, but also the only way to acquire knowledge of mankind. So, in teaching the appropriate use of relatively simple and accurate image of the graphics-assisted teaching, the teaching effectiveness of teachers tend to make more with less. According to the teaching content, you can allow students under the teacher's request to the prior art in the form of homework on paper Fortunately, this will enable the students to participate in the teaching and learning activities, forcing students to actively use their brains, to seek the teacher's teaching intentions, This requires students to do prep work before class. For example, in teaching 8A Unit6 Natural…

In math 214 there were endless amount of math concepts learned throughout this course. Probability and Data Analysis apply basic concept of probability. And use appropriate statistical method to analyze data. Billstein, Libeskind, and Lott (2007) we also were introduce to Geometry which we analyze the characteristics and properties of two – and three –dimensional geometric shapes. We also argue mathematics geometric relationships as well as visualize. Billstein, Libeskind, and Lott. (2007) another math concept that was discussed during class was application of Measurement which applies appropriate techniques, tool, as well as formulas to determine measurement. As we went on through the course this were some of the things that were farther discussed in this course 3-d shape and what was associated with the shapes. perimeter, volume, surface area, and number of vertices, as well as faces, and edges. To sum this all up, this were a very interesting class I always heard that geometry was hard. But, I really learned a whole lot from this class as well as how to teach it all to my student’s present and future classes as educator.…
