On my revision about Slavery Footprint, I have made many changes and added a lot more to the final draft. I started my revision on my final draft after I rewatch the video and read all the comments I had. When I was writing the first draft, I kind of had a hard time writing about how they appeal to ethos, pathos and logos. After reading all the comments I found out that there was many things I had to work on for future rhetorical anaylsis paper. In my final draft, I added two paragraphs about who the intended audiences were. The ones that I think is the audience and the audience they talked about in the video. After reading other people's draft I learned more about analysing a specific part of the video. So for the revised draft I furthur explained…

In all honesty the first draft needed a lot of work, the first thing I revised on my paper was the thesis. I did not read the assignment instructions properly the first time, causing my entire easy to be focused on a completely different topic than what was asked. Then I took Professor Astocio’s e-mail comments into consideration and included in my essay why people should care about this argument. My peers suggested Bryan Stevenson should be mentioned in the first paragraph instead of the second, their advice was useful. Altering my first paragraph allowed me to focus my attention on the ways Stevenson used rhetoric, rather than on him personally and a summary of the things mentioned in his Ted Talk. Finally, the last things I revised included…

Anne Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts” presents an argument to eliminate the understanding that writers create a masterpiece on their first drafts. The first draft is simply the first attempt that writers create to turn their thoughts into a final paper. Lamott tries to convince the “uninitiated” that everyone writes “shitty first drafts” and often times, positive outcomes come from those first attempts. One of the biggest obstacle in writing is the fear of creating terrible paper and many writers do not realize that this is actually the most important part to a good article. Lamott provided an effective rhetorical situation because of her persuasive appeals and structure.…

When I was young I had no interest in playing sports or going outside just to run around and waste my energy and get all sweaty and stinky. Instead I enjoyed staying indoors and embarking on interstellar missions through the cosmos. Of course I do not mean that I literally did this but I did play video games, allowing me to do things that no normal person could hope to do in their lifetime. Now there still are limitations to this and by no means should you not go outside and make friends and get some healthy exercise, because as much fun and time consuming video games are, you’re body still needs actual exercise.…

The thesis statement provides the controlling idea that is the reason to write the essay; as such, when the thesis statement is weak or absent there is no point to the essay. The essay becomes merely plot summary and even if the plot summary is bang-on correct and uses wonderfully embedded quotations, you’re still facing 2/5 maximum in the categories of Thought and Understanding, Supporting Evidence, and Form and Structure. Why? Because your thesis shows no understanding of what the text suggests about the topic, the evidence isn’t supporting an idea, and there is no form and structure at all because the body paragraphs are not working towards proving anything.…

Improvements can be made in my essay in the areas of word choice and conventions. Throughout the essay, some words were used that should not have been. Above all, the biggest problem in this essay is the absence of a second counter argument. I was only able to write one body paragraph for the counter arguments, instead of two. In the future, I must improve on my conclusion and always keep it open. A small word choice error that can be improved is using the word “altered” instead of the word “made” with regards to my sentence about life being altered by multiple people. Another major problem that needs to be improved is the pronoun agreements, such as writing “their” or “they” instead of “his or her.” Improving on these conventions will only make my essay stronger and will receive a higher grade.…

The outline alone helped me organize my paper because it split up several parts of the paper through: quotes, claims, warrants, and the thesis statement. The different activities we did during class with our papers helped…
