Philippe’s character is almost the polar opposite to Pierre’s. Where Pierre was driven, and one minded in his plan for his future, Philippe is driven by his passion for painting. He doesn’t care for financial gain, other than what he would need to get his father from pressuring him and what would allow him to keep creating. He is almost in love with himself, and has nothing but confidence in himself, and his abilities to succeed. Where Pierre is self-oppressing, hard on himself, Philippe…

In August 1974, Philippe Petit, a Frenchman with a passion for walking on wires, captivated New York City as he stealthy made his way to the top of the World Trade Center. Once there, he walked across a cable strung between the Twin Towers, a historic feat that 's vividly depicted in a new documentary, Man On Wire (which will be screening tonight). He now lives upstate in Woodstock, and yesterday we talked with him about those 45 minutes between the towers, that first daring step onto the wire, and the ones that followed.…

While it is clear now to see the differences between monarchs during the 16th and 17th centuries, it is clearer to see the similarities and differences between Louis XIV and Elizabeth…

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a man in his mid-thirties who has super strength and flies? Not all us can live by, and relate to complete fiction. Traditional heroes have never quite served the same purpose as the outlaw hero has. Everybody can appreciate a little realism, which is why society is more psychologically attracted to the outlaw hero. The outlaw, or flawed hero, has a certain persona in which appeals to everyone. In other words, outlaw heroes are a movie’s way of projecting imperfection as a quality.
