On July 16 1790, a compromise between Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison let George Washington choose the location.
November 1 1800 is when John Adams moved in the white house and only lived in it for 4 months. Thomas Jefferson was the very first president to be inaugurated in Washington D.C.
In the war of 1812 after capturing the capital British troops set fire to the white house.
The Washington national cathedral took 83 years to complete.
