As a young boy in Scotland, William Wallace witnesses the murder of his father, brother, and townspeople by the English forces under Longshanks, the king. After the death of his father, Wallace was taken to France and was educated by his uncle and was taught both Latin and French. Many years later, he returns to Scotland and renews old acquaintances. Also, there was more gore and passion in Braveheart. While characters in The Patriot used guns and swords, the characters in Braveheart used hand to hand fighting. Mel Gibson's character in Braveheart was more into fighting, while in The Patriot he was more into family and did not want to fight. However, the ideas for the movies are pretty much the same. In both movies Mel Gibson plays a mythical figure determined to fight for freedom and avenge the deaths of each characters loved ones. In both it shows him as a superior fighter and
