Comparison: Netflix Versus Hulu Plus
Netflix vs. Hulu Plus
Whenever you find yourself in the mood to binge watch a new show or just looking for a good movie to watch on a rainy afternoon, which would you rely on? Both Netflix and Hulu Plus are a reasonable price of $7.99 per month and have their own original shows. Netflix offers a wider range of old and new movies than Hulu as well as hit TV shows. Amazon Prime is also another competitor against these two but I decided not to compare the three because Amazon also offers so much more than just movies and shows. Wouldn't you like to know more about how Netflix offers more bang for your buck?
Most critics believe that “It's no secret that if you want to watch movies, Netflix is the way to go” (Burks). Netflix has the largest movie library out of all the on-demand internet streaming medias with selections from romances, comedies, horror and even some of the best documentaries. Its hard to compete when “New movies arrive on the service every month” (Burks). With over 75,000 more movies than Hulu Plus you will always find a movie to enjoy whether you’re looking for an old throw back or something fairly new.

If you are planning to share your account with one other person and both of you would like to watch different things at the same time your monthly price would increase to $8.99 per month. If you are sharing the account with a family, you can pay the $11.99 per month price and have four people using the account at the same time. On the other hand, “The basic use of Hulu is free; the service is supported by ads” (Hulu Plus vs Netflix Comparison - 6 Differences). Hulu Plus also costs $7.99 a month but only allows you the one option to view on one screen and still has adds like the free basic

Netflix strategy has no brick and mortar stores, big stores with a variety between 300 to 4000 movies in stock. Netflix relies on the internet for customers’ orders and mail system for the delivery. The company does not have late fees, fluctuating monthly fees, predetermined rental periods, instead has a flat fee. Netflix, let customers view unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows for a monthly fee and has also developed platforms to deliver its titles to Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and TiVo.…

Netflix’s idea was excellent. They had the idea to offer consumers a reasonably low flat fee to rent unlimited amount of DVDs. As fast as a customer could watch a movie and mail it back, the customer would receive another from their rental queue. The customer pays their money and they end up saving a lot on rental fees because they are promised new movies within a day of the delivery of the movie that they returned in a pre-paid envelope. One of the reasons that Netflix has been able to maintain their competitive advantage is the due to many people have already chosen Netflix as their online movie rental choice and it would be very hard for a new comer to take Netflix's business. It would also be very hard to offer the same choices at the same price, and a lower price. Another reason that Netflix can sustain its competitive advantage is due to the theory of first-mover advantage.…

People who often watch television need more variety, and Direct TV is a National satellite company which offers local and cable channels, movies, sports, TV series and reality shows. The programs are up to date, but played repeatedly, so it is likely to run on those watched the night before, or the week before for instance. In addition to that, the frequent and annoying advertisement interruptions are a downside. In contrast, Netflix is a company which requires an internet connection, and it doesn’t have commercial interruptions. Moreover, Netflix regularly adds programs to its archive, giving the subscribers the possibility to choose between thousands of options. On the other hand, Netflix doesn’t provide local channels and news, yet the customers can…

The question of who has rights to control what data flows thought the Internet and at what speed has been a question discussed within the US government since the late 1990's.(Gans, 2014 p. 183) The question has been should the internet providers be required to treat all data on their infrastructure as equivalent or should they be given the ability to prioritize some data types or sources over others. There have been several key decisions over the last 20 years and so far the US government and the FCC have stayed fairly consistent in their opinions and rulings, but the Internet providers are trying to make changes. Net neutrality is a vague term that can cover many aspects of the Internet itself, the service providers, content providers and…

1.As stated in the case study because of the U.S copyright law requires streaming rights to be purchased from TV and movie studios before being downloaded. Netflix needs to find a way that can benefit both them and the studios in order to better suite their needs financially. Netflix can generate cash that the company needs to pay off the studios by deciding that instead of offering the streaming service for free, they should incorporate their streaming videos with their current DVD rental plans allowing their customers to have the option to do as they please. For e.g. Netflix should charge their customers an extra $4-$6 on the current plans like the cable companies would normally do.…

Rivalry Among Existing Firms. In terms of the video rental industry, Netflix now has very few competitors. Blockbuster was the main one, but has since lost steam. Outside of DVD rentals however, the competition is much more intense. Netflix directly competes with cable companies like Charter, On-Demand channels, and even Tivo. Online streaming companies such as Hulu are also major competitors.…

After a lovely nine-year grace period of free streaming services, Hulu has announced that they’ll be dropping that service. The company will now be focusing on putting all their efforts into subscriptions. The subscription service, which offers less interruptions and a larger selection, will start at $7.99 a month. The fee-- compared to Netflix’s $7.99-$11.99 monthly fees-- is actually a pretty good price.…

Netflix has continued to prosper in an incredibly fast-paced industry, still with so much room for growth (Appendix 2). With more than two-thirds of all households now owning a DVD player, Netflix caters to all different demographic groups across the United States. They have even reached a younger generation by syncing with the XBox Live gaming system. Unfortunately, there are some factors that keep Netflix from just continuing with what they are doing. Blockbuster has positioned itself in a relatively similar manner to Netflix, causing customers to second-guess which one is better.…
