In the Day 1 Story 1 tale, truth is completely based on the false testimony of Ser Ciappelletto. When talking to the friar, Ciappelletto is asked if he ever became angry, and he replied, “I would have preferred to die rather than live to listen to young people swearing”, creating a false image of himself (Day 1 Story 1: Page 614). He is seen as a righteous man who loves holiness, when in reality he is just as unjust as the people he describes. In the Day 10 Story 10 tale, the husband tells the wife that he loves her at the end, after he has continually abused and mistreated her. He says he “loves [her] more than anything else”, yet he had both of their kids shipped off to die (to her knowledge), and he practically divorced her (Day 10 Story…

The next two men that can be compared are George and Kino. Both of these men are the leaders of the story. In The Pearl, Steinbeck writes "Saying this is safety, this is warmth, this is the whole (6)." This shows even Kino sees himself as the fatherly, manly figure in charge. In Of Mice and Men George states "An' he was so damn nice to me for pullin' him out. Clean forgot I told him to jump in (40)." This incident shows George is the leader and Lennie does what he wants. Also, they are both the caretakers. In a conversation, George said "I told his old Lady I'd take care of him (22)." A statement was made about Kino's milieu; "... a savage, secret, dangerous melody (10)" This shows Kino's very protective nature of his family.…

What defines honesty and integrity? Is there a connection between these two words, and what does that imply? Stephen L. Carter, a law professor and writer, questions the common definitions of these words and the their moral interpretations in his essay, “The Insufficiency of Honesty”. In the essay, he makes several about the key differences between what “honesty” and “integrity” actually mean, and I agree with Carter that too often integrity is mistaken for honesty. He mentions that, “…acting in accordance with what you think is right and risking no loss in the process is a rather thin and unadmirable form of honesty”, and I concur that selfishness of that caliber lacks integrity by definition.…
