Comparing Ralph And Jack In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies
Ralph and Jack both want power over the boys, but they want it for two different reasons. Ralph wants to make responsible choices and have orders to make the chances of them being rescued greater, however, Jack craves authority and wants to have total control. Jack represents an autocratic government, and attempts to withdraw power from anyone he can. Ralph represents a democratic government, and encourages everyone to have a voice. This makes the conflict man vs. man one of the most powerful conflicts.
