Comparing Martha Nussbaum's Education Of Profit, Education For Democracy
Martha Nussbaum’s article “Education for Profit, Education for Democracy” and Paulo Freire’s article “The Banking Concept of Human Education” discuss their differing philosophies on how to best educate people. They have similar, yet some different viewpoints regarding the subject of education.

Their models are different; Freire’s model illustrates the teacher-student relationship while Nussbaum’s article concerns how education should look in a democratically run government by focusing on the humanities, sciences, philosophy, and history.

Both models have things in common. For example, they both discuss places that people don’t have the best education and the effect that it has on the people there. ( NEED TO EXPAND — GIVE AN EXAMPLE)

    Freire describes the “banking” concept of education by saying that “Education thus becomes an act of depositing, in which the students are the depositories and the teacher is the depositor. Instead of communicating, the teacher issues communiqués and makes deposits which the students patiently receive, memorize, and repeat” (Freire 244). He uses the metaphor of depositor and depositories to relate to a bank. Freire stresses the importance of problems for the mind in order for critical thinking to take place.
