In the story of Baucis and Philemon, these two are old and poor. These two were the only ones that invited the gods into their house. No one else let them in because they were dressed up as poor people, looking for a place to stay the night at. They prepared a big meal for the two poor men, who were the gods. At supper they got out some wine, but after a while they noticed the wine was always refilled, never emptied. "We have a goose, which we ought to have given your lordships. But if you will wait, it shall be done at once" (117). They decided to catch the goose to give to them because they realized, the two poor people were gods. When the gods, had a few chuckles from watching them chase the goose. They stopped them and told them that they were gods. Baucis and Philemon were saved, unlike everyone else. At the end they were the only ones on the island. When they died they "formed into a linden and oak that formed one trunk" (118). They formed this way because the love for each other was so strong, which impressed the gods, which the gods made them a masterpiece for everyone to come and see. This story has crazy and brave love because they gave the poor people a big meal and wine; when in reality they had very little food supplies for themselves. It was crazy because they cared for them as much as they could to be good hosts, and to have a strong love for each
