Comparing Davie And The Kidnapped Novel
“Davie lad, I love ye like a brother,” Alan Breck states to David Balfour in the Kidnapped novel.
I am writing this to show that the movie and the novel were very different. In the book it opens with Davie’s father, Alexander, already dead. In the movie, it opens with Davie’s father still alive, just caught under a branch. Overall, I feel that the Kidnapped novel was better than the movie in every way.
First and foremost, there are many similarities and differences between the two stories. My first example is when Ransom died in the novel. In the movie, they portray Ransom as about to be thrown over, although they never end up doing it. He then fights against Davie and Alan, and yet still never seems to die. In the book, he is killed by Mr. Shuan, the cause being that he brought him a dirty pannikin. Another example when Alexander dies. Even though the novel and movie both indicate Alexander dying, they died in very different ways. Another difference between the two is when they go visit Cluny and Alan gambles. Both contain this scene, although it goes down very differently. In this scene in the movie, it shows Alan approaching Davie when he is asleep, rather than the book where it claims Davie was sick. And lastly, one similarity is when Davie and Alan approach the village of James of Glen, and find that the Long Mile Gang is after them and the village is going to be ransacked. I feel

The novel was far more detailed and the eloquence of the author came into play, rather than the movie where it is different lines. So, hopefully you now have a deeper understanding of the difference between the book and the movie, and fully understand the similarities and differences between the two. After a deep analysis, the book still appears better than it’s movie counterpart, just like most other book/movie

The movie and book Kidnapped had many differences and similarities. For example, one similarity that happened in both the book and movie is that they knocked Davie out. Davies uncle, Ebenezer, sold Davie into slavery. Davie´s uncle paid captain Hoseason of the Covenant to bring Davie into slavery. Another strong similarity that happened in the book and movie, is when Davie and Alan won the fight on the Covenant. To add onto that, Alan joined the boat and the crew…

First of all, one of the biggest reasons the movie is better than the book is because of the quality of the flashbacks. In the book the flashbacks were more set in the past and much longer, sometimes too drawn out and a little boring for how much background story there is for just one day dream, whereas in the movie the daydreams are a bit shorter but more set in the present and more affect by what he does in that moment with little background because of how short they are and how close to the present they may be. The daydreams are usually much more exciting in the movie as well, whereas in the book it's set back to just a boring doctor surgery, that was…

S.E. Hinton was only 15 years old when she wrote this extremely detailed book. I liked her book a lot because of how much detail she put into it. I didn’t like the movie a lot because I was kind of expecting it to be a lot like the book but was disappointed when it left out many different parts of the book. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the book was more effective in telling the story.…

There are many differences between the book and the film: First of all, it is evident that the very detailed description cannot translate to cinematic form. To replicate this, the suspense is portrayed through the faces of the young actors who are, in my view, simply not talented enough to be able to properly bring out our emotions with the poorly performed dialog.…

I think that the text is better than the film, as the text has more nuts & bolts, along with a highlighted character personality shift. In contrast, the film takes away your required thought to imagine things (the fun part of reading stories) by spooning it to you, and is more homogenous and esoteric (simplistic &…

    Book Vs Movie Analysis

To begin with the movie takes away the experience of the book as it skipped many important parts that were in the book. This change in the storyline altered the experience of the movie as the emotions you feel while reading the book are just not there in the movie. Some good examples of this could be the scene in the book were John narrowly escapes the mogadorians by jumping out the window and gliding to the next building. Without this scene the suspense in the movie is not there. Another major scene that the movie added was when Henri died early on in the movie instead of at the ending like in the book. I felt like this was not a good idea as you want the viewer to feel the same sadness as John but how is this possible if Henri dies too early. Also it felt like the movie took out more scenes than they added by doing this it made the whole story just feel rushed. Because of this there were many times in the movie that were hard to follow unless you read the…

Exposition writing "Ah!" states he, falling again to smiling, "I found my wastefulness from the same man I found the buttons from; and that was my poor father, Duncan Stewart, grace be to him! He was the prettiest man of his kindred; and the best swordsman in the Hielands, David, and that is the same as to say, in all the world, I should Ken, for it was him that taught me. He was in the Black Watch, when first it was mustered; and, other gentlemen privates, had a gillie at his back to carry his firelock for him on the march. Well, the King, it appears, was wishful to see Hieland swordsmanship; and my father and three more were chosen out and sent to London town, to let him see it at the best. This quote means that Alan doesn't come from a long line of Jacobites! Alan is a brave man, and Alan is the one that saved Davie from getting kidnapped. The fact that he believes the King of England was not the rightful king at the time, Alan still takes pride in the fact that his father performed feats of fencing in front of him. Alan wants to be alike his father, and wants his father to be the king again. The purpose this essay is to represent the difference and similarities between the book and movie, Kidnapped. Further on you…
