The Allegory of The Cave is a theory by Plato concerning human perception. Plato claimed that knowledge gained through the senses is no more than opinion and that, in order to have real knowledge, we must gain it through philosophical thinking. The Truman Show is about a man whose life is basically fake because he thinks that he living in a world that is nice and cares for him but he does not know that he living in a studio, and all his friends and family are actors. In Allegory of The Cave and The Truman Show both are similar when it comes to characters and symbols but when it comes to setting it makes them different.
To start with The Allegory of The Cave and The Truman Show are similar by how the characters are portrayed in the story and movie. In the story by Plato the prisoners are kept in the cave, chained and unable to move. “In this they have been from childhood, with necks and legs fettered, so they have to stay where they are. Imagine mankind as dwelling in an underground cave with a long entrance open to the light across the whole width of the cave.”(Plato 1) To add on this shows what kind of cave it is, how it looks, and what is the purpose of it being there. Likewise The Truman Show has the same kind of cave but it is the dome the show is in. It does the same purpose because Truman is basically trapped in it, he not aloud to leave the dome.
