Compare/Contrast Me And The Protagonist Jeremy
Contrast There are different contrasting things in the world out there. I contrast a boy in a Novel known as Jeremy. When Dad Killed Mom Julius Lester is the title of the Novel. The protagonist and I could be friends in ways, but we differ from one another. Me and the Protagonist Jeremy, contrast each other in many ways. Things that contrast us are the views we have on the world, and how the world views us.We both have different views on the world, and on ourselves. Unfortunately, I would have gone about the situation differently than the protagonist has. Both Jeremy and I have different views on the world which makes us contrast one another. The world views Jeremy as a young and artistic boy. Jeremy draws for fun, in the beginning

In the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and the poem “There is a Longing…” by Chief Dan George, the authors apply metaphors and diction to express that people have to change their way of thinking in order to achieve their dreams. At the beginning of the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the main character Junior expresses why he loves to draw. He claims that it is a way to talk to the world and it makes him feel important. He dreams of being rich and famous when he is older, and the only way he believes that is possible is if he escapes the reservation, where he is living.…

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ novel Between the World and Me is written as if the narrator is telling a story by writing a letter to his son, Samori. It is written similarly to Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time as both novels are written in letter format. The narrator is talking about the fears and differences living in the world as a black person and describes more specifically the fear of harm to the body. Throughout the novel Coates is telling his son about the truth behind their history and his experiences with poetry, love, religion and a few different journeys he went on. Coates begins by telling how he felt as if he always had to be “on guard” as a young adult and that he felt threatened and was quite often fearful of the world around him but as the…

    1. Contrasts can evoke strong emotions and images in creative writing. Re-read Yusef Komunyakaa’s poem “Facing It” (page 42). Make note of the ways Komunyakaa contrasts ideas and images: white and black, night and morning, stone and flesh, solid and air, movement and stasis, reality and reflection, past and present. These contrasts create a sense of confusion and tension. Write two paragraphs of your own in which you describe a brief fictional scene that is full of contrasts. Make the contrasts meaningful to the character in your scene.…

By way of example, I would like to compare and contrast Tobias Wolff’s This Boy’s Life, and Geoffrey Wolff’s The Duke of Deception. With this in mind, I would like to explore the central conflict of family issues, specifically related to their father-son relationship. To put it differently, I would like to compare the upbringing between the two brothers. Geoffrey for example, lived with his father and essentially became the caretaker paying all the bills and going to school while his father ripped people off. Tobias Wolff on the other hand, lived with his mother while traveling to Utah to make their fortune by mining uranium. With regards to this, I also plan on contrasting how their experiences shaped their writing technique. Geoffrey tends…

The short story "Class" by Sherman Alexie tells of the struggles of an American Indian man and tries to demonstrate how he reacts to his contrasted feelings and diverse world around him. The central theme of Alexie's short story is contrast, and this theme is evident throughout the story, even in the smallest of details. The actions, emotions and even the language of the characters contrast and these contrasts clearly illustrate the difference the characters have in class.…

It makes sense that Ford is their God because the society in Brave New World moves away from culture and identity towards total technological efficiency. Ford is the father of modern automobiles and of production technology, he represent all things scientific and efficient making him a suitable symbol for them to “worship”. Ford is to their scientific society what God is to a cultural one. I believe Huxley chose Ford to become the closest thing to God in Brave New World because he was made progressive in his developments and in his treatment of his employees (they enjoyed working for him and got paid well), just like the new world is very developed, every person loves what they do, they do not have stress and are always happy. Yet, Ford had strict control over his workers personal lives through his “Sociological Department” which set and enforced standards for personal behavior and spied on workers to make sure they complied. This resembles how every person in Brave New World is watched over and does everything they are told to due through conditioning. Lastly, I think Huxley chose Ford because it is a name that is recognized worldwide.…

Ancillary Essay 3 (AE3): Identities in Contrast Essay PromptRead both "Shooting Dad" and "On Being a Cripple" in 50 Essays and consider thecontrasts in how they articulate identity. How do both essays configure exclusion andinclusion? In both essays, the authors distinguish their identities from groups. In an essayof 500-750 words, organize an analysis of how the ideological and physical identities inthese two essays converge and diverge. As with AE2, quote from the essays to supportyour thesis, using MLA format (commas & periods inside the closing quotation mark forin-text citations; periods after parenthesis for page citations).A key element of writing a compare & contrast essay is finding the point of convergence. While Cohen has already done some of our work by putting together the two essaysunder the heading of "identity," we also know that at a detailed level there will bedifferences. In a sense, both Vowell and Mairs want their essays to be about those differences.Ironically, they also want their audience to identify with those differences. In effect, writing a comparison & contrast essay is like walking across a rocky riverbed: the morefamiliar you are with the highs and the lows (research), the more quickly you can lead theway across (explicate and argue). But remember that you won't be crossing alone; you'llbe leading, so give us a concise statement of what you think is the best way to the otherside (thesis) and then lead the way.In writing AE3, be sure your essay gives accurate summaries of both essays. Thesesummaries should be brief and should follow your thesis, which itself should appear earlyin the essay. Following the summary should be the paragraphs in which you analyze thespecific contrasts between our ideological and physical identities. You will need todecide whether to organize your essay so it contrasts the two essays in their totality orwhether it contrasts specific points from each essay.…

During history there have been literary works that had characters that were remarkably similar to each other. Two characters that stood out was Jay Gatsby, from The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald and Hamlet from The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare because they were both being driven to a separate kind of person than who they usually which is being more insane than the usual human would be. Some reason for their peculiar outbursts of who they really are is a particular girl that was in their life that changed who they are as a person, their ranking in society, society itself, and the amount of money that they had compared to others in their stories and who they knew .…

Likewise to ‘In Paris With You’, contrast is used in the way that it is written in a paradoxical manner. This is because the poem is written in a positive tone but negative words are used. The first stanza is written with bitterness and regret with the author wallowing in self-pity, but you can tell it is not entirely serious as he uses a made up word or hapax-legomenon ‘maroonded’ which is a play on marooned so that it rhymes; this adds humour and creates a light-hearted nature.…
