Compare & Contrast Basketball Vs. Baseball

Good Essays
Baseball vs. Basketball Baseball and basketball are two very different sports, but the both do relate in some ways. Often times sports fans compare these two sports to determine which they enjoy best. One big comparison between them both is that they are in face both sports. These sports are also both played as teams. Most of the time, these things in common are far outweighed by the differences between the sports. Two sports that are often compared with each other, baseball and basketball, are similar in terms of both being sports played as teams, but they are actually very different in terms of the location the game is played, how the teams score points, the uniforms worn, and the number of active players per team. The location in which the sport is played is one way sports fans compare baseball and basketball. The location in which the game is played can be a very big decision maker in which sport fans enjoy better. Baseball is played outside; basketball is played inside. This can help sports fans choose which they enjoy more because some fans may only like to watch games played inside or outside and not both. Baseball is played on a diamond shaped field called a baseball field or a baseball diamond. Basketball is played inside a gymnasium and is usually called a basketball court. For sports fans, comparing where the sport is played definitely helps them to determine which sport they enjoy more. Another way for sports fans to determine which sport is more enjoyable is to compare how the teams score points. In baseball, the pitcher throws the ball for a batter to hit. When the batter hits the ball, they run the bases. The number of points the team gets depends on the points per base, or the batter getting a home run. In basketball, players shoot the basketball into the hoop on their team’s side of the court. The number of points scored depends on the shot made and the distance from which the ball is shot. The way in which the teams score points to win the game is a big deciding factor for sports fans in choosing which sport they like and enjoy more. Baseball and basketball are also considered different in terms of the team uniforms. While this can be a similarity between both sports, it is also a difference because each sport has its own unique uniform to wear. Basketball players wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. They also wear basketball shoes or sneakers. The color of their uniform corresponds to the color of the team. Baseball players wear cleats, which are tennis shoes with bumps on the bottom to help grip the dirt on the field and the bases. Baseball players also wear pants that go down to their ankles and short sleeve shirts. They must also wear either a baseball cap or a helmet when playing. Like basketball, the color of the uniform matched the teams color. Comparing the uniforms of these two sports shows just how easy it is for a sport to have something in common, yet it still is so different for each sport as well. The final way in which sports fans compare baseball and basketball is by comparing the number of active players per team. This can be a big deciding factor in which sport a fan likes better because they may like to have a consistent number of players playing at one time, or they may like to see varying numbers of players playing the game at one time. In baseball, the number of active players per team is a total of 9 players. While there are usually more the 9 players on a baseball team, only 9 players are allowed to be on the field playing for the team at one time. In basketball, the number of active players per team at one time varies. There must be a minimum of 5 active players playing on the court at one time or the team must forfeit, but a team can also allow up to 12 active players on the court at any time. It is hard to imagine how two sports can be similar yet so different at the same time. To recap, baseball and basketball are both sports that are played as teams, but are quite different in terms of the location the game is played, how the teams score points, the team uniforms, and the number of active players per team. These are all great things that sports fans compare when deciding which sport they enjoy more. It is hard to believe that these few ways of comparing the two sports can have such a major impact on what fans think of the sports. Based on all of the factors that were compared, I would have to say that I would choose to watch baseball over basketball anytime. Baseball and basketball are both great sports, and are both enjoyed by sports fans in their own unique ways.

Baseball is a sport that we as American have played since the early 1800s. This is why I thank we call it the American favorite pastime. Here is a look at why I thank baseball should be played by every red blooded American. Throughout this paper I will give you some comparisons to baseball and football. Hopefully I can influence you to play baseball instead of football. Here are some of them; baseball is played in the summer time when the weather is great, warm nights and long days. That makes it great baseball weather. On the other hand Football is played in the dead winter when it is cold outside and the days are very short. But that does not stop the American people from loving the both game; some people love those type of weather. Whether it’s cold or hot both games are fun to watch. But I thank that it would be better to sit on a warm day with no weather compilation and watch a baseball game than to sit in the cold freezing weather watching a football game.…
