Freshman vs. Senior Year There are a lot of things that can change in a person through their years in high school. As a person progresses through high school grade by grade, there are many changes taking place. In these four years a student grows and becomes a stronger student and overall person in life. There are many challenges and obstacles a person goes through these years which is why freshman and senior years of high school are very different. Although they’re only a couple years apart and both occur in high school, a senior is more confident, they set the standards for the rest of the school and overall more mature and responsible than freshman. A senior is much more confident walking around the school as opposed to a freshman. In the hallways of high school you can always pick out the seniors from the freshman because the seniors tend to walk with confidence and authority. This comes from the idea that the seniors are the “big fish” and superior to the rest of the school. Also, the seniors know where everything is since they have been there the longest and are comfortable with the school. Freshmen are a lot more nervous and walk looking very small with very little confidence. They are a lot less likely to know where everything is and haven’t grown comfortable with the school yet. Another reason why senior year differs from freshman year is the fact that the seniors set the standards for the rest of the school. The other grades look up to the seniors and pretty much follow what they do. At football games, the seniors control the student section and tell them what to wear and the rest of the school pretty much goes along and does what the seniors tell them. The freshmen get very little say and usually get the worst of everything. At football games or other sporting events they have to sit in the very back of the student section. All the other grades make fun of the freshman joking with the idea of “fresh meat”. With being a freshman comes no or very little power within the student body. Overall the seniors are more mature and have more responsibility as opposed to freshmen. Senior year the students have taken or are enrolled in AP classes that are not offered as a freshman. These AP classes meet college level learning, so seniors are learning at a much higher level than freshman. Senior year is also the time where a student needs to figure out what he or she would want to do after high school. In most cases the next step after high school is college. Seniors need to work on college applications along with their heavy load of school work and after school activities. This is a load on a senior with very little help from their parents, seniors become more independent. By senior year a student has learned how to have time management and handle all that needs to be done and meet deadlines with very little help. Seniors have grown up, usually have a job and a car and are paying for gas and essential things in their life. With all this responsibility and maturity shapes a senior. Freshmen are still kids and learning. They are still immature and depend on their parents for everything. Senior year and freshman year are very different in the fact that seniors are more independent, mature and confident than freshman and seniors “rule the school”. Freshmen have very little part in school-spirited activities and get looked down on.

    Upperclassmen Stereotypes

    • 347 Words

Even though the upperclassmen began as freshmen, they believe it is their right to discriminate the ‘newbies’ as they were discriminated themselves by the previous Juniors and Seniors. Aforementioned, this stereotype most likely originates from the relationship between experience and age. Most may say, maturity and responsibility grow with age but, really, it depends upon the environment the individual grew up in. So, why can’t the younger people be evaluated before assumptions are…

I remember the first day of my freshman year, I was scared walking into the school. I wasn’t scared to go to classes, but I was scared of the upperclassmen, especially the ones who were on the football team. After the first week though, I learned that I wasn’t much different from them and that they weren’t bad at all. So one of my advice would be not to listen to all the rumors you hear about upperclassmen and freshman hazing; those are just rumors spread around to scare people. Don’t be afraid to talk to upperclassmen if you have a question or anything.…

For most students, Senioritis won’t appear until the later years of high school, most likely the end of junior year and of course during the senior year. For the most part, I don’t think people just become lazy and de-motivated overnight but Senioritis is more of a thing that you adapt through your high school years. Many students try to make their senior year the easiest by doing everything they can for the first three years, so when their senior year comes around you’re not totally swamped with schoolwork. Usually, some seniors get out at the end of fifth period, and some are out of school after lunch. Despite contracting ‘Senioritis’ many students don’t get Senioritis because they’re just so pumped to get out of high school and keep moving…

Throughout high school, I’ve always heard that senior year would be the easiest, most fun year- the year when you could just lay back and enjoy yourself. Unfortunately, and though I know it is mostly by my own doing, I have not found it to be my easiest year at all. College, senior project, all on top of four AP classes have made senior year my most stressful yet. Though at this point I think the worst is over, it certainly has been one crazy autumn.…

“Stupid Freshman”, are the words every freshman hears entering high school. Everything they do, is wrong no matter what. I remember entering freshman year and being so excited, that was until the first month had passed. I wasn’t scared coming into highschool because I had many friends who were already in high school. Many upperclassmen tried to warn my friends and I what to do and what not to do. As usual, we didn’t listen. As freshman we thought we were all grown up and so mature, little did we know we would need to use our conscience instead of following the crowd.…

Junior high school was a different story. Leaving the nurturing environment of elementary school, I found myself in a larger school with few students I knew and far more that I did not. Familiarizing myself with new teachers and their teaching styles, traveling from class to class and taking public transportation was quite an adjustment. Feeling overwhelmed, my grades suffered the first marking period of my seventh grade year. Fearful of how I would be perceived by my peers, I rarely sought assistance from my teachers regarding content and that contributed to my receiving my first failing…

Socially speaking, the school would then be a mix of students between the ages of fourteen and nineteen years of age. Social issues will arise between the younger and the older students because of the age difference between the groups. High school performs an important social role in guiding students through their teenage years. At eighteen years of age, a person is already an adult and should be socialized with adults, such as other college students or fellow employees.…

    Senior Privileges

Seniors are also submitted to constant scrutiny and pressure to perform above and beyond, in order to help prepare them for "the real world." Another important fact to consider is that seniors are not just freely handed these privileges, but in fact, earn them and are required to meet certain criteria in order maintain them. The students are required to keep a certain grade point average and discipline record once the year has begun. The complaints about the "senior privileges" come almost entirely from the underclassmen. The underclassmen need to understand that they are called "underclassmen" for a reason, and in the event that they reach their senior year they will be given the exact same privileges as their peers. The fact that they are complaining about it being unfair is a direct example of their maturity level and one reason why they are not able to be entrusted with the same responsibilities as seniors. Realistically, if they were able to take a step back and look at the big picture, they would realize that it is in fact very fair. The underclassmen have not been in school as long as the seniors nor have they accomplished what the senior…

Another difference between high school and college would be the atmosphere.
