Compare and Contrast Essay Web design and multimedia/web design seem like two sides of the same job and both have their challenges and gratifications, and within this essay the two jobs will be compared and contrasted to see how each will match up. A web designer designs the graphics of a site or the site as a whole in hopes of selling the design(s) to a company or corporation. These designs can be for one page or multiple and must meet with the company or corporation’s ideas and requirements. A multimedia/web designer deals with much the same thing as a regular web designer, but they work on web development teams to create a more sophisticated web site as a whole rather than just a few parts here and there. Both of these very noteworthy jobs within the graphic and web design industry are responsible for creating the most appealing visual design(s) possible in their own unique ways. There are many similar aspects between web designers and multimedia/web designers. Customarily, both jobs are seen as one especially to those outside of the field. Normally, both are responsible in combining the graphic, textual, and other elements of a site to create a visually appealing layout. The web designer is responsible for as little or as much of the layout that is given to them to appeal to the audience, while multimedia/web designers work with a group to create a whole interactive website. As web design author Steve Krug is quoted, “If there 's one thing you learn by working on a lot of different web sites, it 's that almost any design idea--no matter how appallingly bad--can be made usable in the right circumstances, with enough effort,” and it’s this quote that unifies the web designers and multimedia designer as one (Krug). There is, however, a huge difference between a web designer and a multimedia/web designer. Web designers, as said above, are

Video game designers have a unique role in creating a video game. They create fun by communicating with gamers and adjust the difficulty or pace based upon their reaction or feedback. They create complex puzzles and new ways to kill or defeat your opponent to keep you entertained and gradually increase the difficulty as you progress through the game. They also have to communicate with artists, musicians, and programmers to see if their work will slow down the performance of the game, or if the material just does not fit in. An artist can create beautiful artwork, but if it takes too many polygons to make, the game will be choppy and become unplayable. They need to be good leaders also, since they will be overseeing the entire game playing experience. They also need good communicating skills and should not be afraid to say no to anyone. A video game designer needs good communicating skills and needs to know when something will degrade or improve the game.…

Web sites are swiftly becoming, and in some cases are already, the preferred media choice for information search, company presentation, shopping, education, gaming, socialising, and much more. In this day and age, where visual symbols play an increasingly important role in our day to day lives, the design, content, and function of web pages, play a pivotal part in influencing the meaning and value of information. The meaning and value of information can be worked out by a few simple questions; who is the author of this information? Who is the supplier? Why is it provided/what is its purpose? Who are the intended audience? What is the source? And finally, how current and accurate is it? The last two questions are probably the most relevant when it comes to the value, as if it were a secondary, out-dated, and inaccurate source, it would not be very valuable. The terms design, function, and content must be looked at and defined to answer this question. Design of a web page mainly refers to how the page looks to the user and the layout of it as well. Whereas function is all about how the website works, whether it is easy or not for the user to navigate around the site or whether or not links and images work on the site. Finally, content is the text, images and other elements that make up the core of the web page. In this essay we will be looking at issues ranging from the opportunities the web provides us with to present information, to the challenges that are created when information is displayed online. In addition to this, we will also be looking at issues such as how we are able to establish the quality of our information as well as how the presentation and design of web pages influence the value of our information in particular.…
