Compare And Contrast Egypt And Mesopotamian Society

Mesopotamian society and Ancient Egypt have many similarities and differences when comparing them to each other. For example, they are both located near rivers, as water provided an area to hunt and fish and if the river flooded, the land would become fertile. Each society has their unique way of doing things, but they also have similarities in their ways. When comparing their social aspects, both the Mesopotamian and the Ancient Egyptian society had well defined social classes. Cities made it easier for social distinctions in Mesopotamia and in Ancient Egypt. What was different when comparing social classes in these two societies was that in Mesopotamia, they had a series of urban kings. In Mesopotamia, they experimented with copper and tin, which invention of bronze. Bronze was cheaper and it allowed them to make swords, spears, shields, and more which had a great impact on their military affairs. Bronze was also used in Ancient Egypt, yet they were slower to adopt these metal weapons and tools. Life changed over time when looking at their form of writing as well. In Mesopotamia, they wrote in cuneiform writing, which depended on pictures. They developed a new system to keep records and that was writing on scribes. In comparison, Ancient Egyptians wrote in what’s called hieroglyphic writing. Egyptians added to their pictographs by having symbols which represented sounds and ideas. Also, hieroglyphic writing survives on sheets of papyrus which preserves records, religious texts, etc. In conclusion, when comparing Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt they do have many things that are similar to each other, yet they still have things that are unique to them. The Ancient Egyptian society has taken some of the findings that came about in Mesopotamia and either kept them, or changed them to their standards and ways of
